Thanks. All seems a bit bewildering at the moment I will spend some time
looking over your suggestions.

It's shown at the bottom, so you might get away with hacking the skin
- take a look at, e.g. skins/monobook.php.
The "clean" method would be to write a quick extension which hooks page
views and injects the information at the top.

This is a bug fix and enhancement release.
A performance enhancement was made with respect to user and group
searching. You can now define separate baseDNs for groups and users;
this is helpful if you have a very large directory, and don't want to
search your entire directory information tree.
Currently the enhancements aren't documented in the official
documentation; they should be in the next couple of days.
A couple major bug fixes related to $wgLDAPUseLocal, and nested group
restriction are included with this release. If you are having problems
with either of these, or had problems in the past and disabled those
features, please upgrade to this release.
Enhancements:
* Added configuration options to specify search bases for users, and
groups
* Added a configuration option for modifying LDAP options on connect
(patch from Daniel Marczisovszky)
* Integrated the code from
[[mw:Extension:LDAP_Authentication#Better_support_for_groups]] so that
other extensions can use all available LDAP groups
* Added checks for the php_ldap module; the plugin will fail gracefully
if it does not exist
* Added better debug information for (nested) group restrictions
Bugfixes:
* Fixed Special:Preferences prints PHP warning, "Undefined index:
wsDomain in ''PATH''/LdapAuthentication.php" issue
* Fixed issue where allowPasswordChange() didn't check for
$wgLDAPUseLocal
* Fixed issue where local usernames were munged when $wgLDAPUseLocal was
enabled
* Fixed issue where local users were created with a blank password when
$wgLDAPUseLocal was enabled
* Fixed Nested Groups bug
[[mw:Extension_talk:LDAP_Authentication#Nested_Groups_option_not_working
]]
* Changed link in source to point to mediawiki.org instead of meta
For downloads, or more information, please see:

I want to arrange for the date a page was last altered to be displayed
automatically at the top of each page. Is there some
variable/placesetting/codefield I can us to do this?

Forward to MediaWiki-l, that is where most people who are interested just in
the software aspect subscribe. :-)

Subject: [Wikitech-l] Seeking MediaWiki Developer
To: wikitech-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org
I'd like to first say I'm extremely impressed with the amount of expertise I
see amongst all of your replies. I think you can comfortably take pride in
being a select group of soon-to-be very sought after developers. I
personally appreciate the work you individuals have put into the
Wiki-revolution; it's made my life that much more pleasant.
I myself, however, am not a web developer, I'm an entrepreneur. I am working
on a project that I think will legitimately change people's lives. It starts
by creating an online database. From the research that I've done, a
MySQL/PHP combo seems the most potent for what I need, and MediaWiki
delivers that nicely. I am, therefore, seeking a MediaWiki developer to not
simply work for me, but work with me. I have a flexible budget, but I think
the money you'd make from the hourly rate is least enticing. You have the
chance to be part of something for the greater good, like Wikipedia has been
to us, but also the chance to make a healthy fortune should this project
head in the direction investors and myself predict it will.
I am carefully selecting a group of 9 individuals for this project, 1 of
which is a web developer (the only internet-related position). Please e-mail
me if you are interested. I am looking for problem solvers and
perfectionists.
Best,
Greg

hi,
I'm trying to write a programm with java to insert content automatically
into the wiki.
I set the POST variables and the submit button value and then send the
request to the server. Now comes the problem that MediaWiki doesn't let me
post anything.
The page returned is only the preview page, but exactly with the content I
wanted to post.
So I've got the question whether there are any special variables to be set.
Looking at the source code I saw that there are some hidden fields.
Do they all have to be set to get this posted?
Or are there any other problems or things I have to consider?
Thanks for any help or links.
Johannes
