Hi
I would like to know if is possible to show in Mediawiki SVG files
directly without first render it in a raster file like PNG.
I plan to do this because my wiki is in a shared server hosting plan
and the administrator can't install librsvg for me. Is possible to do
a static compile of librsvg and install it a my home directory?.
Thanks,
Javi
Hello list,
I've Installed several wikis on unix and linux servers.
With Sun Servers (Solaris 9) I've a problem to build png thumbnails from
svg images with imagemagick.
Some thumbs are ok, some are disordered, in some cases the result is
only
a white/transparent picture.
My configuration:
mediawiki: 1.9.3
mysql: 5.0.41
apache: 2.0.59
gd: 2.0.34
php: 5.2.3
imageMagick: 6.3.0
To simplify system adminstration I prefer to install precompiled
packages from SunFreeware if available.
I tried to convert some images manually, i.e.
/usr/local/bin/convert -background white -geometry 200 image.svg
image.svg.png
The result is the same as with mediawiki.
Older versions of imageMagick (i.e 6.2.3 on Linux) work fine.
Does anyone know if version 6.3.0 of imageMagick is buggy?
Is it a better solution to compile the newest version from source or
compile any of the other tools
like Sodipodi or Inkscape?
Which tool is used in MediaWiki/Wikipedia?
On
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Running_MediaWiki_on_Windows#ImageM
agick
you can read:
"PHP now comes with GD enabled by default. This will work for
thumbnailing,
and will not require any configuration or modification. Therefore t's
highly
recommended to not install ImageMagick, since it is known to be
unstable."
I think this should be valid for unix too. Is this a joke?
Thanks for your help

I have a question regarding the method MediaWiki counts the articles in the wiki. I have setup several custom namespaces in my wiki. I would like to display the number of articles using the "Special:Statistics|{{NUMBEROFARTICLES}}" parameter. But when I invoke this on a page it only shows one article, even though I have about 100 pages throughout the wiki.
Is assume this is only counting pages in the NS_Main namespace since I only have one page in NS_Main. Is this correct? If so, how do I display the count of *all* pages in the wiki?

I am noticing an irritating situation whereby my users are falling out of
sync with their login status between Drupal and Mediawiki. The AuthDrupal
extension is working A OK but we have Drupal setup so as to use session
based cookies. Once the user closes their browser they are logged out.
Mediawiki does not, currently, act this way. So, when a user re-opens their
browser they are still logged in with Mediawiki but not with Drupal.
I have looked throughout Wikimedia but not seen any references to this type
of configuration. Does anyone know where this can be changed/configured? I
am not sure if it is configured within Mediawiki or AuthDrupal.
I did find the $wgCookieExpiration page and am wondering whether this can be
used by perhaps setting to zero?
As always, many thanks for any input.
Paul
Hi All!
I would like to customize de search results.
I have a wiki up and runnig.
When I type a word for search it returns 2 blocks of results: "Article title matches" and "Page text matches". In both cases, under every single title, the wiki shows the lines where the word I searched apear.
My question is: Is it possible to configure wiki to show only the titles?
Thanks.

{{NUMBEROFPAGES}} should be what you're looking for. :)

I'm designing a "skill repository" for a corporate management team to know who has expertise in some task. Instead of designing a custom SQL database, I've been trying to use a wiki to allow them to log on and edit their user page, which should contain a list of skills and associated ratings.
I've set up a sample user page, but it's proven too complicated for them to copy the wikiText from the sample and paste it into their own user page. Is there a way to inject my wikiText into the user page space in the database when they create an account? The primary functionality I'm looking for is: A) when they open their user page, they see the sample text [not an edit box] and; B) they can edit the skill set and add numbers representing skill level on their individual user page [excludes templates].
Any thoughts on good extensions/workarounds would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

All,
We are trying to use the RSS feed from Special:Recentchanges, but when
we try to pull the feed in we get the following:
XML Parsing Error: xml declaration not at start of external entity
Location:
http://wxp-5ppg211/gecwiki/index.php?title=Special:Recentchanges&feed=rs
s
Line Number 2, Column 1:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
^
It appears Mediawiki is putting in a blank line above the "<?xml
version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>" line, when that line should be first.
Any ideas on how I can get Mediawiki to change that behavior?
Thanks,
Dave Green
I have an old Wiki at http://www.mapinfo-l.com that I am moving to
MediaWiki.
For the time being I left the old one running and am temporarily setting up
the new one at http://www.svgmap.com
One thing that's nice on the old Plone ZWiki was the subtopics features, see
in the middle where it starts out AdminFeedback, etc.
http://www.mapinfo-l.com/Wiki/FrontPage
The users will expect this.
Is there any way I can implement it on MediaWiki?
I tried this but it doesn't seem to be what I want -
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:SubPageList2 -- or is it??
Thanks in advance!
Eric
