I have a small documentation database (250 articles) that I would like to
import into mediawiki. I realize that I could possibly link to this
database but I am looking to convert all together. Has anyone done this or
have any experience in this? I can export from lotus/domino in a few
different text formats that I could write a script to parse but I don't want
to re-invent the wheel if I don't have to.
Thanks!

you can create a direct link to http://yourwiki.ext/index.php?title=Special:Userlogin&type=signup

No (I guess you already tried to force-refresh ctrl+F5)
Is there a way to lock down the info on a User Page so that only the user
can change it? Anyone wanting to pass a message to the user can put it on
their Talk page. I'd like to make the User Page pretty much a Resume / CV
controlled by the user alone.

I'm attempting to get the Stableversions extension working with version
1.9.1, I'm getting the following error when I try to change the state of
the page either to stable from draft or from stable to draft:-
Catchable fatal error: Object of class ParserOutput could not be
converted to string in
/home/johnmoor/public_html/wiki_2_policy/includes/Parser.php on line 2779
Help ?

Has anybody installed mediawiki 1.9 on a bluehost.com account yet?
The install script is telling me "PHP 5.0.x is buggy on your 64-bit
system; you must upgrade to PHP 5.1.x or higher. ABORTING.
(http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=34879 for details)
so I've opened a support ticket requesting PHP5.1x
Meanwhile, or if they don't want to upgrade I wonder what workarounds
may be available.

Hello, I downloaded mediawiki today and installed it
and it works! Running on fedora core 6 and is located
in /var/www/html/wiki . But, I want the url to be
http://wiki.mysite.org as it is now it's
http://mysite.org/wiki
I know mod_rewrite is working as I have 3 sites on
this server and all are working fine.
DNS is set correctly
How do I do this with mediawiki? I don't see anything
in the LocalSettings.php to this.
Thanks,
Eric
We have a private wiki, which will eventually become public. We would
like to integrate the pages from our current public wiki into the
private wiki. The wikis are in different databases. Also, the public
wiki table names have a different prefix than the private wiki pages.
Here's the strategy I've come up with for doing this, and I'd appreciate
if anyone could point out potential problems, or an easier way of doing
things.
Fortunately, the amount of editing that will be done on the public wiki
after a copy is integrated into the private wiki will likely be small;
so we can handle such cases manually when we're ready to take the
private wiki public.
For simplicity, I'll call the private wiki I (for internal) and the
public wiki P.
Here's the strategy:
1) Dump P.
2) Do a simple text substitution on the dumped text file to change the
table name prefix appropriately.
3) From that dump file, create a copy of P (with prefix names changed),
I'll call it P2.
4) Check P2 to make sure everything is OK so far.
5) We have already copied a few pages from P to I, and modified them;
so, write a SQL script to remove pages that already exist in I from P2.
I'll have to figure out which tables are affected by this.
6) Write a SQL script to transfer all pages from I to P2 (this makes
sure we don't screw up the current I).
Here's a more problematic part;
7) Write a script (in python, for me) that will go through the images
directory in I, and copy the images to the same locations relative to
the P2 images directory. I'm guessing this will work, but don't know
enough about image storage and indexing to be sure. Alternatively, I
could simply not transfer image information over from I, and then use
importImages.php to import all of those images; but again, I'm not sure
if there might not be some table dependencies that would make this
difficult. Comments here are very welcome!
8) P2 now becomes I.
And that's it.
Many thanks in advance for any comments you can give (and I also hope
that some of the ideas in this might help others).

Having moved a wiki from one server to another using mysqldump (thanks
for all the previous help, everyone!), I then moved the images directory
over as well. Unfortunately, none of the images are displaying. This was
a move from a 1.6.3 wiki to a 1.6.9 one, so I diffed the old
LocalConfig.php file against the new one, and the only relevant change
we'd forgotten to include was '$wgFileExtensions = array( 'png', 'gif',
'jpg', 'jpeg', 'zip', 'mov', 'pdf' );', which I then put in to the new
config file. Still didn't work, unfortunately.
So I then tried creating a blank images directory, and using
importImages.php to load all of the images. However, this gives me
mostly 'no such file or directory' errors, presumably because I don't
have the images/0, images/0/00, etc subdirectories in the images
directory. I also get a few errors noting that a give file is already in
the wiki.
Any suggestions as to the best course from here? Any thoughts on what
might have caused the images to fail to display on the initial attempt?
Thanks,
Ken
Hi,
Maybe someone knows how to place a banner on each page of wiki (even newly
created pages, and in edit, show - preview sections).
I thought about creating a template - Template:Banner and placing it on
every page, but it would be quite tedious and would have to repeat it every
time new page is added.

Aretai
