Hello there,
I tried to add to my wiki (Mediawiki version 1.6; PHP 5.1.2) the
CharInsert-extension. I did the following:
1) Created a CharInsert.php-file in /extensions/CharInsert (copy-paste
from http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/CharInsert/CharI…)
2) Replaced the javascript-code from skins/common/wikibits.js with the
javascript from
http://en.wikipedia.org/skins-1.5/common/wikibits.js?1.
3) Changed Mediawiki:Edittools to put in the charinsert-tags and other
wiki-code like in wikipedia in order to adapt the text beneith the
edit-box and give users the possibility to easily add special
characters. (I have to tell that in my wiki-setup,
$wgUseDatabaseMessages = false;).
4) Added require_once("$IP/extensions/CharInsert/CharInsert.php"); to
localsettings.php.
...unfortunately this returned a completely blank page, unless i
changed "require_once" into "include" (as is suggested on other
sites). Then the wiki was viewable again in the browser, but the
CharInsert-stuff still didn't work. So i tried to put the textmessages
with special characters into the copyrightwarning in messages.php (as
is also suggested on some sites), but unfortunately the text is not
parsed (the <charinsert>-tags are still there instead of being parsed).
I really can't see what i am doing wrong here. Does anyone have any idea
what should do the trick?
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards,
Birger
Hello,
after porting an existing wiki-installation from OpenBSD to Windows Server 2003
we have got the problem that files with german special characters aren't
uploaded correctly.
Just an example:
I uploaded the file "test_ö_ä_ü_Ö_Ä_Ü_ß.jpg". No error message is shown and when
the link below the upload-success-message (Test_ö_ä_ü_Ö_Ä_Ü_ß.jpg (12KB,
image/jpeg) ) is clicked, this is the result:
Not Found
The requested URL /wiki/images/e/eb/Test_ö_ä_ü_Ö_Ä_Ü_ß.jpg was not found
on this server.
The file on the (NTFS-)filesystem is named "Test_ö_ä_ü_Ö_Ä_Ü_ß.jpg".
I already tried to change
$wgLegalTitleChars = " %!\"$&'()*,\\-.\\/0-9:;=?@A-Z\\\\^_`a-z~\\x80-\\xFF";
to
$wgLegalTitleChars = " %!\"$&'()*,\\-.\\/0-9:;=?@A-Z\\\\^_`a-z~";
to disable the last 127 ASCII characters (also including ö, ä, ü, Ö, Ä, Ü, ß).
With this change, I can avoid that persons can upload files with those
characters. Those characters will be replaced by "-". But -of course- it also
isn't possible to create articles with special characters anymore, which is
rather unacceptable.
On my Windows Server 2003 I am running
Apache 2.0.55 (Win32)
PHP 4.4.2
MySQL 5.0.24
I would be very pleased if someone can help and tell me how I can provide this
wiki with the ability to use german special characters on Windows Server 2003.
Thank you in advance,
kind regards,
Frank
Hello,
I am trying to install the CharInsert extension, but I'm having trouble
locating CharInsert.php. All the links I've found point to
http://cvs.sourceforge.net, which is not working.
Is that site temporarily down, or does the file exist somewhere else as
well?
Thanks,
-J

I have installed FCKeditor on a test server and instance of my wiki and I'm
having a generally good experience with it thus far.
In some respects I'd prefer not to use it, but my managers are kind of
pushing for it so I'm stuck having to deliver some kind of WYSIWYG option to
them.
In any case, when reading over the page for the extension on Meta there are
warnings about data corruption that may result from using the editor. I
understand that it will break standard wiki formatting, but I am more
concerned about the integrity of my database. I wouldn't expect it to be a
concern, but I want to be certain so I can reassure everyone. Has anyone
here ever experienced any kind of database corruption from using this
extension?

Hello. For my wikiget program I cannot figure out how to parse the Allpages.
The exact url (given by Special:Allpages with Main namespace + Go button) is:
http://www.nwn2wiki.org/index.php?title=Special%3AAllpages&from=&namespace=0
(Other downloaded namespaces are 4, 6 and 14.)
Is there any rule which could be used to parse the page urls?
The page urls would then be given to exporter:
http://www.nwn2wiki.org/Special:Export/FULLPAGENAME
Is there an Allpages page which lists the pages in a parseable format?
Additional trouble is that the Allpages are splitted to multiple
parts (for unknown reason).
Suggestions for future needs:
(1) A list of "<namespace> <fullpagename>" of all pages would be nice:
http://www.nwn2wiki.org/Special:AllpagesRaw
All namespaces would be listed.
(2) The list of pages in
http://www.nwn2wiki.org/index.php?title=Special%3AAllpages&from=&namespace=0
could be enclosed inside comments
list of all pages starts here
list of all pages ends here
for easier parsing.
(3) Or the table containing the list of all pages could be labeled.
(4) Labeling of "Next page" link.
(5) Remove or make optional the limits such as
class SpecialAllpages {
var $maxPerPage=960;
One could add
# GET values
$maxPerPage = $wgRequest->getInt( 'maxperpage' );
Value 0 could default to 960 when maxperpage is not given.
Then I could get list of all pages with
http://www.nwn2wiki.org/index.php?title=Special%3AAllpages&from=&namespace=…
I would prefer the suggestion (1).

Is anyone using any kind of caching system on 1.7.1?
We used eaccelerator on 1.5.x and it worked perfectly.
When I upgraded to 1.7.1, I noted that the stable release of eaccelerator
did not work with php 5.x.
I followed the instructions to build the svn version 0.9.6 (260.svn)
http://eaccelerator.net/wiki/InstallFromSource.
Everything seems to work ok except the login section.
The login page returns:
Fatal error: Cannot access parent:: when no class scope is active in
/var/www/html/includes/SkinTemplate.php on line 108
I know I'm way out on a limb here, bleeding edge and all, but has anyone
gotten over this?
What (if any) is everyone else using instead of eaccelerator?
Andy
Hello,
Before:
Articles like AIM, MSN, Yahoo etc. in the main namespace, search
function works perfect.
After create the namespace plugin (includes the chhange in
wgNamespacesToBeSearchedDefault), move the articles and remove the
redirects:
plugin:AIM, plugin:MSN, plugin:Yahoo
Surprise! Search for AIM or MSN not work any longer, search for Yahoo
works.
So is there everywhere a minimum for the search for custom namespace?
Or whats going wrong ?
Another point is that "Go" button its possible to change somewhere that
this button works for two namespace, main and plugin ?
regards

is there any tutorial how to install HTML::WikiConverter on wiki 1.7.1? the tutorial that you can find under http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/FCKeditor_and_HTML::WikiConverter says about 1.5.8, so code snippets you're supposed to replace with something else look different. Anyone has aby idea? :)

I created a category(Category:HowTo) in my mediawiki and had one page
tagged to it. Then I wanna delete the page Category:HowTo when an
error accoured. It said:
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in
the software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function "Article::doDeleteArticle". MySQL returned error
"1364: Field 'ar_text' doesn't have a default value (localhost)".
Anyone knows what was wrong? Thanks a lot.
Where can I find the newuserlog extension? I've checked Meta, and left a
message on the creator's talk page, but to no avail. Searching the archives
here hasn't turned up any working urls either.
