Hi,
sorry for my poor english.
We using MediaWiki with a pop/imap tunnel via MyAuthplugin. It works.
MediaWiki (http://wikipedia.sf.net/): 1.4.7
PHP (http://www.php.net/): 4.3.3 (apache2handler)
MySQL (http://www.mysql.com/): 4.0.15-log
Looks like:
function authenticate( $username, $password ) {
return imap_open("{127.0.0.1:10110/POP3}", "$username",
"$password");
}
Tunnel und wiki running fine.
If we try to update to 1.4.10 or greater we cant authenticate, failure:
imap_open(): Couldn't open stream {127.0.0.1:10110/POP3} in
<b>/var/www/html/wiki3/extensions/MyAuthPlugin.php
It is checked 10 times, tunnel works, settings are the same and so on.
Any ideas whats wrong?
regards and thank

There was an extension for mediawiki 1.5:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Renameuser
Not sure if it still works.
Otherwise, you may have to use some kind of login that will never change
(not terribly easy with people getting married).
If you use LDAP, you can extend my LDAP Authentication plugin to incorporate
the code from the rename user extension, and some tracking mechanism in LDAP
to tell when a user has changed names, and automatically rename their old
account.
If you verify the rename user code works, I may be able to help you with
adding it to my plugin.
Also, my plugin supports pulling preferences from the LDAP server. So you
can have their "Real Name" and "Nickname" preferences updated automatically
if it is changed in LDAP.
If you aren't using LDAP, then sorry for the bother :).

Hi! I tried searching the archives for this, but the description of my
problem has such general terms that I got literally thousands of hits,
and couldn't hope to search for them all. As such, I apologize if this
question has been addressed before!
I am looking for a mod or plugin that would allow only the original
author of an article to edit said article. If this hasn't been done or
isn't possible, then I'd be interested in a way to lock all articles
upon the initial submission.
Do any of you know of such a functionality, either which already exists
in mediawiki, or which exists in the form of a mod or plugin?
Thanks!
Erin
I am having problems setting up custom User Groups.
I have added a new User Group to LocalSettings.php. The new user
group shows up on Special:Userrights and i can assign it to a user.
However, after i have assigned a user to this new custom group, the
new privileges don't become active for that user.
Is there anything else besides:
$wgGroupPermissions['ninja']['delete'] = true;
that needs to be added to LocalSettings to enable a new user group?
(I am bit confused by the documentation at http://meta.wikimedia.org/
wiki/Help:User_levels
At one point it says you need sheel acccess to the server to create
new groups, and then a few lines down it says that new groups can be
added in LocalSettings.php as i mentioned above.)
thanks

Allow me to recall a #mediawiki anecdote from about a week ago. A user
new to the software wanted to set up about three wikis using a fourth
as a mini version of our Commons (their own implementation); the
"usage" side had been established, but the user queried whether or not
uploads from all wikis could be diverted to the new.
Given that the "slave" wikis would all have access to the "master"
database (excuse the confusing mix of terminologies for those who are
placing this into 'SQL context), I considered it wouldn't be too
difficult.
Now for the relevant bit. It's been discussed before, a little, and I
touched upon it in a recent discussion sparked off from the newbie's
questions...but it could be feasible for us to replace our
Special:Upload pages with something a bit more intelligent. Making use
of the licencing dropdowns, we could, I think, redirect free images to
Commons in a seamless fashion (after checking existence and providing
a courteous note to the user, of course).
This has advantages and disadvantages. The user's upload experience is
simple, and the image can be used as before without trouble. On the
other hand, deliberate or accidental mis-selection of the licence
[cw]ould result in an influx of non-free materials arriving on the
Commons.
Nevertheless, I think the idea has potential, and it's something I
might be interested in helping to hack together in the future. I'll
throw it out here and see what people think. And since I'm at it, I'll
cross-post to mediawiki-l and wikitech-l, too.
