This should be easy: I have categories which have subcategories, but no articles in it. Still the page shows a header 'Articles' and a line saying 'this category has 0 articles'.
Since this seems kind of non-information to me, I would like to hide it. That is, only when the article-count is zero. Any higher number should be displayed in a normal way.

Surely this is a problem with MySQL and not mediawiki?
Perhaps you should try the MySQL forums or mailing lists

Subject: [Mediawiki-l] my wiki site is in Chinese, backup and restore
problem
Hi all,
I have asked question about backup and restore problem
for quite a while.
My site is in Chinese and I am using zh-cn which is
the simplified Chinese.
so I guess when I use mysqldump to backup the
database, I sould do the following
mysqldump -u root -p --single-transaction
--default-character-set= gb2312 chpwikidb > backup.sql
But then I got the following msg on the command line,
mysqldump: Character set is not a compiled
character set and is not specified in the
'/usr/share/mysql/charsets/Index.xml' file
Can someone let me know how to fix this problem
thanks
jc

Hi Jake,
Just read your message on the mediawiki site about getting thumbnails working by installing 1.5.4. What files did you copy cover from the new tar.gz?
I am also having problems with thumbnails under Unix. ANy help is appreciated.
Kind regards,
Jay
Jan,
Does it work if you put a "less than" at the beginning and a "greater
than" at the end - e.g. <link with a space>? I am assuming that you
can decide to put those symbols in there.

This works in my emails anyway.
Andrew
I have serious backup and restore problem.
I am testing the backup and restore on two servers,
both having mediawiki 1.5.2 installed.
I followed the steps on meta wiki
Can someone help me out and give me a real solution
thanks

Are the two versions identical? Is the database
structure the same? Can
you use XML instead of SQL?

Hi,
I'm looking for advice about how to get a Media file (it's an MS Word
doc) to have a Word icon to its left, that, when clicked upon, opens the
word doc, rather than the Image page for that icon.
I've tried nesting an as the caption for a Media
file, but that doesn't work. I've also tried using
as the caption for the image, and that also
didn't work.
Any guidance welcome.
Also, it might be nice to have another link type (maybe
Attachment:myfile.txt which creates a reference to a list of
attachments, and then elsewhere in the doc, use something like
Inline:Attachments or whatever to create a table of files with icon,
filename, maybe file size, mod date, author, etc.
If possible, please CC me in replies, I quickly fall behind on reading
this thread.
cheers,
-Nick
Hi,
the file is only few kb. But as the wiki files are not on my server,
I cannot open php.ini file.
Martin
Martin,
What size of file are you trying to upload. Usually there will be a
2MB maximum (as specified by PHP in the ini file). If you try to go
over that, the file will, indeed be empty to the wiki

Hi,
I did "chmod -R 777" to the whole wiki directory. Now I get an other error:

in the file name. #

But the file I chose is ok!
Any idea?
Thanks, Martin
Rick,
Thanks for your time.
My problem is that my wiki site using those three
templates to automate the portal creation process. So
I have three exact same templates.
In my first template, I have a <div> to open a box and
in my third template I have a </div> to close this
box.
But my wiki 1.5.2 did not recognize the </div> in the
third template. So the display box is above the
content of the second template. And at the display
rendering of the third template has a </div> at the
end.
Also can you explain to me why you use 01 and 10 when
you tried to explain nesting level.
Thanks
jc

Except that to code fragment you quoted above does NOT
call that
template, it calls the template
Portal:Sports_and_games/box-header
which is a sub-page of the Portal:Sports_and_games
template.
That {{/box-header means that it's a sub-page relative
to the current
page.
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Portal:Sports_and_games/box-heade…
Note how this subpage template maps the positional
arguments into
keyword arguments with it calls the general
Portal:box-header
template.
> which creates a box.
>
> Then the second template
's content automatically goes into
> the box created by the first template.
The first template only starts the box, by emitting
the header and
opening a <div> for the borders, and the third one
(also a sub-page)
closes this div.
There is no nesting of templates involved here, as you
can see if you
look at tne nesting level of each brace:

10

01
10

01 10
