Hi,
I put a little work in my access map and created some new styles for
quality assurance. I tried to keep it as simple as possible, so the
drawing scheme is down to six colours and two line types:
http://access.t-i.ch/qa-map.html
Each of the different (most important) means of transport has its own
layer in which *only* explicit acces-Keys (e.g. bicycle=*) are
rendered.
The second map uses inheritance according to the following tree:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/images/3/3b/Access_hierarchy_simple.pnghttp://access.t-i.ch/qai-map.html
AFAIK it's the first map to draw, what routing algorithms already
should rely on. I belive that this map will increase the quality of
routing information in OSM and therefore enhance OSM a lot.
Unfortunately, the result is 17 different styles, but they should not
change much in the future. (Hopefully, they don't change at all!) :)
The Styles for the first map are:
/home/ti/styles/qa/qa-access.xml
/home/ti/styles/qa/qa-foot.xml
/home/ti/styles/qa/qa-horse.xml
/home/ti/styles/qa/qa-vehicle.xml
/home/ti/styles/qa/qa-bicycle.xml
/home/ti/styles/qa/qa-motor_vehicle.xml
/home/ti/styles/qa/qa-motorcycle.xml
/home/ti/styles/qa/qa-motorcar.xml
/home/ti/styles/qa/qa-hgv.xml
The styles for the second map are:
/home/ti/styles/qai/qai-foot.xml
/home/ti/styles/qai/qai-horse.xml
/home/ti/styles/qai/qai-vehicle.xml
/home/ti/styles/qai/qai-bicycle.xml
/home/ti/styles/qai/qai-motor_vehicle.xml
/home/ti/styles/qai/qai-motorcycle.xml
/home/ti/styles/qai/qai-motorcar.xml
/home/ti/styles/qai/qai-hgv.xml
@Peter:
I have deleted the old access.xml and bicycle.xml because they are
integrated into this new structure. I don't know yet if there will be
other *_combined-styles; for the moment bicycle_combined is unchanged.
As soon as the styles are rendered, I will post it on the
international list.
Thanks again,
Thomas
Hi,
could be interesting for someone on this list as well.
I extended JOSM RemoteControl to provide protocol version information.
Besides the possibility for clients to choose a compatible command set
this enables web pages to query for a running JOSM.
Because of restrictions due to same origin policy this was not possible
with the existing plugin. RemoteControl now implements CORS (simple
requests without preflight) as well as jsonp for the version check.
I implemented a live demo on the cuisine map. In the upper right corner
will be an edit button in case a running RemoteCotnrol is detected.

The new API command is documented on the wiki:

Hi.
I run a mod_tile/tirex/own-renderer system at home. Since my own-renderer
is slow I am interested that the tiles are cached indefinitely. I upped the
defaults in mod_tile by a factor of 100, so they should be cached 100 weeks
or at least 100 days. But they get re-rendered all over again, and I do not
know why.
Is there a definite log that tells my why mod_tile thinks they are expired?
Or is there a system that marks them as dirty (without my knowledge)?
Thanks
Kay
Hi,
as a by-product, I created 'The Dirtyer':
http://toolserver.org/~ti/dirtyer/
Paste any toolserver-tile-URL (e.g. tiles/bicycle/13/4290/2868.png)
and it will mark the tile itself and up to three generations of
offsprings as dirty (where one generation is the four tiles for the
same area on the next zoom level). So if OSM data changes, you don't
have to request a redraw for every tile yourself.
I restricted the maximum depth to 3, so server usage shouldn't be too
high.
Regards,
Thomas
PS:
What I'm not sure about: Is the tile redrawn immediately when it's
marked as /dirty or only with the next request?
Hi,
some time ago, I discused with Kay ( http://parking.openstreetmap.de/
) that it would be nice to have some kind of rendered base layer
without streets. That would give the overlay-creators much more
flexibility to design maps.
Right now, it is for example impossible to un-highlight the prominent
rendering of motorways which are less important for bicycle maps.
We did not yet discuss which elements should always be rendered, but I
think for a start that would be landuse=, natural=, building=...
Any coments, why that would be a good/bad idea? :)
Regards,
Thomas
... while I was waiting for my tiles to get rendered[1] and created
another map that has nothing to do with the original purpose I signed
up for:
I present you `The WheelChairMap´:
http://toolserver.org/~ti/wcm/
It's far from being finished but now ready for a beta-release. (And
right now only available in German.) Feedback is very much appreciated.
Regards,
Thomas

Hey,
Maps and Semantic Maps 0.6.4 are now available for download [0]. This
release contains several new features, amongst which basic KML support for
Google Maps, a new OSM service implementation and re-added service links
support to the Geographical Coordinates data-type in Semantic Maps. For a
full list of changes since 0.6.3 see changes to Maps and changes to SM.
Everyone running 0.6.2 or older is advised to upgrade as soon as possible.
You can find a more detailed description of the new features and other
changes on my blog [1].

It's running, the config was just referring to style files that had been
removed since the last restart.

Is it running now or is it still down?
Peter
Hi,
just today, jburgess improved the renderd output to show which layer
is failing (and apparently doesn't exit renderd at this point), and a
related mod_tile change ("it now drops any tile requests for the
broken layer and logs another error message for each request").
Since I just restarted renderd for a change in hikebike only to see it
crash after a few minutes (which doesn't seem to be due to my style
changes), these improvements would be quite handy to have.
Cheers
Colin
