There is a proposal [1] for Wikipedia in Bandjalang [2]. It is a Pama–Nyungan language [3], an indigenous languages of Australia. The problem with indigenous languages of Australia is that they are used by very small number of speakers. The rule is that there are just few dozen of speakers. According to Ethnologue, the language is "shifting" [4], meaning that it is not likely that there are young speakers. Usual action in the situations like this one is to put the proposal "on hold" and wait for native speakers. However, I think that WM AU could do something here. sorry folks ahs anyone actually looked at this it should just be closed as not yet, it been proposed a user who has made a total of nine edits across all projects on 22/23 November 2016 nothing since. The cultural issues that this person will face are significant, even more as they dont speak the language. After 3 years of work on the NYS language with local community support it'll go nowhere. Wikimedia Australia and myself will help any of the indigenous language groups develop a Wikipedia ultimately having over 300 Indigenous Australia language projects would awesome but dont set them up to fail specially like this where the damage done and lost of trust from the speaking community will have a profound lasting impact on sharing knowledge. That would be great. We in Wikimedia Norge are looking into supporting wikis in Lule Sami and Southern Sami – it's only in the preliminary planning stages, but knowing that organizational support from us will add some more weight to a proposal would be a very nice boost.
