To avoid this kind of unnecessary work in the future: is it possible
to create some VIP in cloud environment so that I can simply move this

as many users are using the hostname instead of IP, what's the best
way to move the hostname? Would it be possible to implement some
instance renaming feature?
Instance renaming would not be easy due to Puppet integration, but I
think we can find some tricks for "service names". A phabricator task
tagged as #cloud-vps would probably be a good way for us to work out
some system. If nothing else we can make sure that your Cloud VPS
project has access to configure DNS records in a subdomain and you can
use that to create a CNAME for folks to use.
The Cloud Services team has some hope to introduce a "Load Balancer as
a Service" system in the future, but we need to finish work on some
other infrastructure changes before we are ready to look into that
seriously.
