Paul,
I recently posted a message to this mailinglist containing a status
question on the plans for a mediawiki API. With a API its possible to
develop all kind of programs, including chatsbots to interact with mediawiki(wikipedia).
But for sure, chatting your way trough wikipedia would be super!, I've
had some ideas about a chat interface against mediawiki.
To do so an API is mostlylikely needed in my opinion.
I will have a look at the possibility and the time effort corresponding to
the development of a wiki API.
Cheers,
Michiel

I just stumbled upon this chat interface to Amazon and
the BBC:
Simply add:
chat(a)insidemessenger.com to your MSN Messenger (or AOL) and start chatting.
Something like this might make a cool way to search Wikipedia -
especially if disambiguation pages could be integrated.
