I don't think the idea was to charge generally for a subscription, but
rather to include ads.
However, unlike most mirrors, it would hopefully make it quite clear
that it was a MIRROR and that it was possible to view the content
without ads if one so desires.
Provided that the ads are not popups, and provided I can choose
whether or not I get flash ads (I hate the damned things), I would be
willing to do all of my Wikipedia browsing that way because I would be
happy to give that much-needed boost to WMF.
