Well I suppose in theory it wouldn't take much work to expand it to a
wikipedia-specific standalone thick client independent of any browser, but
that kind of thing is waaay out of fashion.
It then *could* reduce server load because a thick client could be delievered
sent plain wikitext instead of making html pages, but I doubt it's really
worth it, IMO a seperate program just to look at + edit a wiki is too much
fuss.
