Gabriel and I were already struggling to assign access keys in a
sensible manner, and many of them already turned out unintuitive (e.g.
Special Pages = Q, because S and P were already assigned to the Save and
Preview buttons on Edit screens, or Random Page = X, because R was
already assigned to Recent Changes). Some were already required to be
special characters (e.g. My User Page = .).
Taking more letters of the alphabet away from us is only going to make
this even worse. We're going to inflict shortcuts like "-",
"'", "/",
"=", "[", etc. upon everybody, just so that some people can have
their
"select all".
It's not necessary to assign a key to every conceivable function!
Overriding browser functionality, however, is never ever acceptable. I'm
sorry if this seems awkward to you, but I assure you it's a lot more
awkward to have the computer to unexpected things in response to
standard keystrokes.
No conflicting access keys will be kept.
