I'm following the debian 64-bit mailing list (see
http://news.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.ports.amd64) for a while now and
didn't get this impression. There is the issue to get multi-arch support
into apt, and there's a pretty comprehensive effort for pure amd64 by John
Goerzen. The latter seems to be the one with the most progress by far, but
this doesn't say much about the feasibility of a mixed setup.
Afaik gentoo's 64bit support is quite good, and i think it's not pure
64bit. Suse is the other notable alternative, but then of course there's
the plague of an rpm-based distro ;-)
