Ask him why an average person would wish to ruin a good article?
And why the community would then leave those detrimental changes unreverted.

Furthermore, ask them to point out a selection of good articles that was
edited to averageness by the intervention of the mediocre.  
Theories that don't have confirming instances may cheerfully be disregarded.
