[Mediawiki-l] email confirmation ?

I am reading the documentation but I didn't find if it is possible to
ask for an email confirmation for user accounts creation.

(In fact Wikipedia doesn't ask for an email confrmation

...

However, giving your e-mail address allows other users to
send you mail, and enables you to request password reminders.
We won't reveal your address to anyone, unless you use
the "E-mail this user" feature.

Is this possible? If yes, how?
