they lent us a T2000 (UltraSPARC T1) under the free trial program
available to anyone, completely unrelated to the toolserver.  we
decided not to buy that so we sent it back.

they did donate two machines for the toolserver (one to wikimedia.org
and one to wikimedia.de), but with no requirements on OS or anything
else.  the toolserver runs Solaris because that's what we (by which i
mainly mean me) choose to run on it.
