Subject: [GFW] AOL and GFW
To: greatfirewall@googlegroups.com

America Online has announced that it might provide its "portal"
service for free for broadband users, something folks have to a
monthly fee for right now.

While AOL is nothing to get excited about, it could have some
interesting implications - lots of Western users in the PRC have
benefitted from AOL's portal service as a proxy. I've had a number of
people in China say they have no problems accessing Blogspot or
Wikipedia because they are AOL users.

Something to keep an eye on if this AOL capability becomes more widely
available.
