The Lucene extension itself wasn't changed BTW.
Lucene is a great example of an extension that should *not* be
incorporated into the core software. 99.9% of MediaWiki users would
have no use for it whatsoever; it's only useful for very large sites,
and those need to install Java and so on.
Whether it should have better core support, or be rewritten, or
whatever, is a separate issue.
