It is possible to use api.php on a wiki to which one does not have
access (read-only or otherwise) to do some things to which access
through the interface is denied.
For example, I can obtain a list of all pages on board.wikimedia.org or
internal.wikimedia.org (neither of which I have read or write access
to), while attempting to view Special:Allpages on one of these gives a
"login required" error.
Attempting to retrieve revision information via the API correctly gives
a "no read permission" error, so I can't actually see the content of any
pages.
Is this a bug, or a feature?

Hi all,
I'm working on the internal lucene search engine. I've setup a webinterface
(with the kind help of Tim :) for the new engine, visit it here:
http://ls2.wikimedia.org/
Most changes are in the internals (i.e. making searching/indexing
distributed, incremental updates...), but I also tried to improve the
scoring, and added some new search syntax, and enabled stemming for another
ten or so major languages.
Highlights:
- prefix searches. E.g. entering help:images in the search box will search
only the help namespace
- search categories. You can limit search by category. e.g. clarinet
incategory:"woodwind instruments"
- improved scoring. Default lucene scoring favors short articles, I tried
to make scoring as relevant to wikipedia as possible. Good test is entering
"commodity" into search. Top two articles have almost the same score, first
one: Commodity (Marxism) is a long article about usage of the word in
Marxism, and other: Commodity is an article that is much shorter but whose
title fits more accurately.
Test index is based on latest dumps for 15 largest wikis, with updates from
last 4-5 days.
Any feedback will be appreciated :)
Robert

Hello!
You are receiving this email because your project has been selected
to take part in a new effort by the PHP QA Team to make sure that
your project still works with PHP versions to-be-released. With this
we hope to make sure that you are either aware of things that might
break, or to make sure we don't introduce any strange regressions.
With this effort we hope to build a better relationship between the
PHP Team and the major projects.
If you do not want to receive these heads-up emails, please reply to
me personally and I will remove you from the list; but, we hope that
you want to actively help us making PHP a better and more stable tool.
The first release candidate of PHP 5.2.3 was just released and can be
downloaded from http://downloads.php.net/ilia/. The release comes a
bit sooner then anticipated as it is needed to address a regression
introduced by 5.2.2 in relation to RAW_HTTP_POST_DATA handling. I'd
like to keep the release cycle as short as possible so we can get
this version out ASAP. I'd like to ask everyone to try this release
against their code and/or test suits and report any new problems if
there are any. If there are no new issues I will move to the final
release within 1 week.
In case you think that other projects should also receive this kinds
of emails, please let me know privately, and I will add them to the
list of projects to contact.
Best Regards,
Ilia Alshanetsky

Hi,
We had an issue recently where an invalid entry was added to the blacklist
and our blacklist stopped working, because it was no longer a valid regular
expression. I was thinking we could add a hook that validates local
blacklists/whitelists that are articles upon saving and rejects the edit if
the article contents fail to validate as an RE.
Is there a similar feature like this I've overlooked? If not, I could add it
to the Blacklist extension or as a separate extension.

Today I just checked out the first interview I had about the Esperanto
Wikipedia at:
http://eo.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikipedio:Intervjuo_%C4%89e_Radio_Polonia
and I noticed the link to the mp3 file of the radio interview at:
http://www.wikipedia.com/upload/2002-04-28-radio_polonia_pri_vikipedio.mp3
However, when I clicked this file, I got a 404 error. This interview
was so important to the history of the Esperanto Wikipedia that we
transscribed it into this page, but it would be a real shame to lose
this important piece of history. Has this file been moved somewhere
else? Is it recoverable from some Wikipedia archive? I am truly in a
state of shock at the loss of this file. I have since changed
computers and don't believe I have the original file, because I did
not think it would disappear from the Wikipedia uploaded files. I am
really worried about this, so if someone could find this, I would be
forever grateful.
Best wishes,
