I am pleased to announce that CIS-A2K is extending scholarships to four
Indian Wikimedians. These scholarships aim to provide an opportunity for
these individuals to represent their community and projects on the global
Wikimedia stage, connect with various Wikimedia communities and bring back
ideas and good energy to their home communities.
The selected candidates have been chosen based on criteria and in
consultation with Wikimania Organising Committee 2024 such as their online
contributions and diversity, including both community and gender
representation.
Here are the names of the scholarship recipients:
- Nettime Sujata (Bangla Wikisource)
- Komal Sambhudas (Marathi Wikisource)
- Ramjit Tudu (Santali Wikipedia)
- Nayan JNath (Assamese Wikipedia)
The major objective behind offering these scholarships is to provide an
avenue for Indian Wikimedians who have been actively contributing to the
community but have not yet had the opportunity to connect with the global
Wikimedia community. We believe that facilitating their participation in
global events can further enrich the diversity and collaboration within the
Wikimedia movement.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the scholarship recipients and
thank them for their valuable contributions to the Wikimedia community.

this exciting journey.

Hello Everyone,
In February 2024, we organized a Photography contest named *Wiki Loves
Vizag 2024 *in association with CIS-A2K, where local photographers are
encouraged to participate and showcase Visakhapatnam's beauty. Commons has
received 1400+ images related to Visakhapatnam and its surroundings from
this contest.

Additionally, for this year's Annual Planning Process (APP) we are
joining/hosting
a series of calls/discussions

across the movement.
Join us on the 19th of May @ SAOCC (1230-1400 UTC or 1800-1930 IST)
We will be hosting a 45-minute Annual Planning session including Q&A, this
discussion will be hosted by the senior leadership of the Wikimedia
Foundation. We invite you all to attend and engage.
Ahead of the call we request you to read the Annual Plan draft, which is
available in multiple languages and the shorter summary in over 30
languages including many from South Asia. You can pre-submit your questions

This event is open to all who contribute to Wikimedia’s technical spaces,
including developers, maintainers, translators, designers, technical
writers, and those with a strong understanding of wiki issues who can
collaborate with developers. You can join with a project in mind, team up
with others on existing projects, or create something entirely new. The
goal is to bring together technical contributors from India to address
pending technical issues, and bugs, brainstorm new ideas, and strengthen
connections within the community.
Scholarships are available to assist with your attendance, covering travel,
accommodation, food, and related expenses.

We invite all of you to join us in fostering a culture of support and encouragement for female Wikimedians in your respective communities who exhibit leadership potential. "She Leads" is not just a one-time initiative; it marks the beginning of a journey to inspire and empower women to lead.
The support under "She Leads" commenced on March 1st and will continue until May 15th. You can find more details and updates on our Meta page, which will be regularly updated. I'm reaching out to highlight an important document called Global Majority
Wikimedia Technology Priorities

This aims to highlight the needs of the Global Majority within the
Wikimedia movement, which includes Indic Wikimedia Projects and communities.
This document is the outcome of collaborative efforts involving nine
Wikimedia organizations and the active participation of fourteen
contributors. It was constructed through a comprehensive research process
encompassing assessment, interviews, proposals, and internalization. Wiki
Movimento Brasil led this process, in partnership with CIS-A2K.
The ten priorities laid out were around two high-priority main concepts:
the promotion of epistemic diversity, prioritizing representation and
inclusion of the Global Majority communities and knowledge in
decision-making spaces and protocols, and the decentering of tech
development, prioritizing Global Majority communities’ needs and fostering
a federated network of stakeholders to develop in the Wikimedia projects
and tools.
Your contributions, input and involvement are crucial for these priorities.
