Hello folks,
The licensing aspect will be interesting to follow. The site will have limited value
unless it is free for commercial use by small not-for profits, independent consultants,
and small for profits. These are the groups that can't afford to pay the fees/cost for
copyrighted materials, especially a problem in fast moving areas of science and tech.

As part of their "Earth Portal", DU are planning an "Encyclopedia of
Earth":

They plan to use two wikis; a Public wiki and a "Steward" wiki. The Public wiki
will be editable by the public, but the Steward wiki will only be editable by
approved experts.
They're considering free licensing, there'll be overarching editorial decisions
which apply to every article, no anonymous authorship, and the articles will be
organised within a logical taxonomy developed by experts.
