I've noticed that some time ago on the German Wikipedia, too. I
discussed it with JeLuF on #de.wikipedia, and our explanation - IIRC -
was the following:
If someone is impatient and clicks several times on "save" while
creating a new article, this article will be stored several times in
the cur_table.
Sorry, I forgot to add:
"But that's not an explaination for duplicate articles with different
text. At least, in my opinion..."
