Enrico is free to "start a forkoff" without the approval of the existing
development team and without CVS access, after all MediaWiki is licensed
under GPL. I'll do my best to make the main line of MediaWiki
development outcompete it in terms of features, stability and
performance. Choosing which branch to use for Wikipedia could then be
left up to the users and the Board of Trustees.
