Have you tried plugging half of the new DIMMs in (to give 2GB with the new modules)? This
would seem to be a useful way of identifying if it's a problem with the operating
system... Rotating the DIMMs to check all 4 (?) would also help to see if there's a
problem with an individual DIMM. Of course, there could be a problem with timing with the
four DIMMs if they're not perfectly matched (see
ftp://ftp.tyan.com/manuals/m_s2462_100.pdf - it is a Tyan Thunder K7, isn't it? - for
suchlike information). Of course, all of these would require taking Pliny down; running a
memory checker on them might be a better option, or at least good first step.
