I'm more confused on the new machine, larousse. NTP was already installed
as an RPM; I wiped out the config file to point it at the same server, but
I'm not sure it's working:
# /usr/sbin/ntptrace
localhost.localdomain: stratum 16, offset 0.000120, synch distance 0.00272
0.0.0.0: *Not Synchronized*
FWIW, I haven't been able to get my machines at home (also running
redhat 9) to sync with my server. But then, I had never tried before,
so you've got more experience in that regard.
I will note that when my machine boots, it prints a message that it
is opening a hole in the firewall for port 123, then after the sync
attempt fails, it closes it again. So you may want to reboot
larousse to see if it does that.
