Okay, I think I've got NTP set up for time synchronization.
I think.
I installed it from source on pliny (the workhorse), pointed it at a local
tier 2 server, and it _seems_ to be happy:
# ntptrace
localhost.localdomain: stratum 3, offset 0.000024, synch distance 0.03992
zorac.sf-bay.org: stratum 2, offset 0.053651, synch distance 0.02638
timekeeper.isi.edu: stratum 1, offset 0.054295, synch distance 0.00000, refid
'GPS'
(Note that I did a manual approximate-synch to current time on this
machine before installing NTP.)
I'm more confused on the new machine, larousse. NTP was already installed
as an RPM; I wiped out the config file to point it at the same server, but
I'm not sure it's working:
# /usr/sbin/ntptrace
localhost.localdomain: stratum 16, offset 0.000120, synch distance 0.00272
0.0.0.0: *Not Synchronized*
It may just need to sit for a while and work its magic.
