Hello,
Lately, I am spending a lot of time on es:.
Sometimes, I spend some hours a week importing articles
(I would use that time better, if I have not do that).
The main problems about mass-importing are:
*A lot of void template
(example:
http://enciclopedia.us.es/wiki.phtml?title=Atolinga+%28Zacatecas%29)
*There are still many ''junk'' articles on EL
("hello", obsecenities, questions)
*Some different naming conventions
(EL do not make a lot of new subpages, but old ones remain)
Still, I am for a mass-importing tool (ie. a bot)
*A lot of good articles (it takes a lot of time to import them by hand)
*It could attract more user: more articles and higher position in Google
There is informal collaboration between the two projects, some
user spend time on both servers. I hope, that EL users will not get
ungry if I use a bot (I cannot predict their reaction)
There are no talks of rejoining since many months (at least six month,
I am afraid there will be no new talks before another six months).
My conclusion: I will be pleased that someone make a bot. I would
like to import say 50-100 articles a day (depending on my free time and
the availibility of other wikipedians from es)
Thanks in advance if some one could make a bot.
Regards,
Youssef
Hi Youseff,
If EL is under GPL, then my understanding is that you can't import their articles
into wikipedia (which is GFDL) because the GFDL allow som things that are incompatible
with the GPL (for exemple the fact to keep mention 'this article is based on ...'
or 'image coutesy of ...').
I think that this precise point was one of the reason of the split ("wikipedia is not
enough free" ...).
