[Wikipedia-l] places names -- historical

Well, I'd use the names that people are more likely to know in real life.
Sometimes that's simpky impossible, for example, in plants classification.
But as long as towns are concerned basically you would use the most recent
version, unless it was only published on maps and people used the historical
version anyway.
