(top posting - context below)

To Ronald: I think you've misunderstood what Andre said - he was
simply reinforcing what Ruth had originally said; that on Wikia (a
non-Wikimedia venture) people may expect something different from what
they expect of Wikimedia projects, ie no Google ads, NPOV etc. Please
re-read the context below - of course, you're right that "wiki" is not
equal to wikip/media - but that's not what Andre or Ruth were saying

To Andre: I don't think there's any need to get angry - I think this
is a simple misunderstanding of who you are and what you said.

Cormac

PS: Thanks for the link, Ruth - very interesting :-)

==Context==

Ruth wrote:
If you have not visited the site yet, be prepared for Google Ads, POV
entries, and - oh yes - an occassional Wikipedian.

Apologies if this is old news...

Then Paweł wrote:
So? It's not a Wikimedia project, but a private wiki. Not every wiki
has to be NPOV and without ads (and wikia is a commercial wiki
provider, so they're bound to have ads).

Then Andre wrote:
So? So nothing. Ruth is just warning people who expect to get to some
kind of Wikipedia as to what to actually expect.

Then Ronald wrote:
If I go to google.com, I do not expect the wikipedia.
If I go to wiki.org I do not expect the wikipedia.
If I go to twiki.org I do not expect the wikipedia.
If I go to emacswiki.org I do not expect the wikipedia.
If I go to pbwiki.com I do not expect the wikipedia.
If I go to wiki.x.org I do not expect the wikipedia.
If I go to wikia.com I do not expect the wikipedia.

Wiki != wikipedia. (NOT(!) equal to (=) wikipedia, for those who don't
know this code syntax)

I have no idea why andre thinks he knows "what to actually expect"
from yet another wiki idea... Looks like after viewing the 708 million
hits on google for 'wiki', he has concluded that 1,500 wikis out of
708,000,000 hits determine the future of wikipedia.

Perhaps I should ask for stock tips?

Then Andre wrote:
What are you talking about? Why are you twisting my and other people's
words? What the fuck is going on here?

If this is things work, it's the last time I explain something on this list.

I'm angry.
