avoiding forks (was Re: [Wikipedia-l] public service ads in Wikipedia?)

It would be wonderful and appropriate to list contributors at the
bottom of each page.  Wikitravel seems to have a nice patch for this,
which also lists the latest contributor; I wonder if it would be easy
to backport to the trunk of mediawiki.  (wondering also if Evan is
reading this :)
