This is actually not that different a situation, surprisingly. The
current Bavarian state government claims copyright on Hitler's _Mein
Kampf_, and uses that authority to prevent reprintings within Germany,
except in specifically authorized/edited/commented historical research
editions. However, this copyright is not generally recognized outside
Germany. (For example, Sweden's supreme court ruled that Bavaria's
copyright claims were spurious because the modern state of Bavaria is
not the same legal entity as the pre-WW2 one; see [[en:Mein Kampf]] for
details.)
