Only in one country. The rest of the world was left scratching its heads
and wondering what all the fuss was about. US news programs even carried

Yeah - pity about you ignoring the entire Islamic world, and much of
the rest of the world too that would have standards clashing with such
an occurance.
Is Wikipedia just going to ignore the mainstream because a majority
(if it is) of editors don't agree with their standards.
Wikipedia should be an encyclopaedia for all, not its editors amusing
themselves and setting up things the way *they* want.
