Either run the refreshLinks.php script from the command-line, or touch
each page yourself. Category link tables aren't updated for templates
until the including page changes.

good.

Mediawiki is a wonderfull piece of code, I'm often surprised
to see such intricated code works :-). Of course the update
can't be done anytime.

but this is not very important. I can go on with my
template, it works or will in a near future, thats good :-)

Just when you think it's safe to go out again...

I've secured my fairly late-model (~1.5.6) MediaWiki against public
account creation, and now I'm finding the thieves are polluting it
with trackbacks. This new vandalism requires no account creation, no
edit rights.

In this case, I simply went in and wiped the contents of the
"mw_trackbacks" table. (I can just hear Brion saying, "DON'T DO THAT!")

Is there any strategy in place for combatting this new (to me, at
least) form of vandalism?

Don't enable trackbacks. :)

Hey all,

So the default $wgGroupPermissions (
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:User_rights#Defaults ) have the standard
things for users like reading and editing etc...... and the sysop rights
like accountcreation etc....

But do you have to specifically state that ['user']['protect'], and some of
the other more 'sysop'-warranted operations be = false for users? I just
realized that run-of-the-mill users can protect pages, and do patrolling,
but I'm not sure I want to do that -- so I guess I have to specifically set
user patrol and protect to false eh?
Because maybe for users there's more than move/edit/read/upload for default?

Ideas appreciated,

Not unless you did something silly like set them to true for users.

Hi :)
I changed the css-file in the monobook-folder and all went right, but I
just don't know 'til now how to change the space between the top and the
navigation bar and between the top and the content-div, because I want
the navigation higher and the content lower... :(

I've just installed mediawiki, and I'm having problems with embedded
images. I have uploaded the image, and use the syntax
[[Image:image.jpg]]. From my understanding, this should display the
image in the wiki post, but it doesn't, it merely creates a like to it.
It acts as though I used the syntax [[:Image:image.jpg]]. Thanks for
your help.

How do I transclude the actual category page links? Let me try and
explain...

Example. If I have a category page "Category:XYZ" which contains the text
"This is my category page text" and links to (say) 5 pages which have the
category "XYZ" on them. On another page, "Mega Page", I would like to
transclude the category links. If on my "Mega Page" I put {{Category:XYZ}}
then on this "Mega Page" all I will get is "This is my category page text",
whereas what I want is the 5 links from my category page.

I hope someone out there understands this! Thanks!!

You can't.

Hi,

I am creating site Help pages in my Mediawiki v1.5.6's 'Help:'
namespace.

I could put my Help pages under my 'Projectname:' namespace but I like
them in the more intuitive 'Help' namespace. Is that a *bad* idea?

**I am worried** that future upgrades to Mediawiki may include their own
'Help:' files there that would collide with the ones I am making there
now (when I upgrade).

Anyone know if that is likely to ever really happen?

Thanks!

Roger :-)
