A "thumbnail" of an image is a scaled-down version, often used in
computer and Internet contexts as a preview of the full image [cf
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Thumbnail]. MediaWiki includes the
ability to scale down images on the server so that users can specify
that they want a thumbnail to be displayed, rather than the full-size
image, and the software will scale it to the appropriate size.
