Hi everyone,
are you attending this year's Wikimania and are you looking for some
interesting things to do during Wikimania Pre-Conference? Well, perhaps
this is for you: on*Thursday afternoon*, we will be hosting a workshop
for creating animated explainer videos for Wikimedia projects:
https://wikimania2015.wikimedia.org/wiki/Workshop_for_Explainer_Videos
Videos have become a popular format for the dissemination of information
- especially short animated explainer videos which provide a quick
overview over complex topics. The same principle applies to Wikipedia:
videos can enrich exisiting content and provide an entertaining and
easily comprehensible access to free knowledge. Together with experts
from the simpleshow foundation Wikimedia Österreich offers workshops for
Wikimedians which are designed to learn the tricks of the trade of
screenwriting for explainer videos. In the context of this year’s
Wikimania we are happy to host such a workshop for the international
community*.*
Content of the workshop
* Interested participants will learn the basic skills for creating
plots of explainer videos: how to explain complex topics in a short
and comprehensible way, how to work with cut-out animation,
storyboard conception and visualization
* The participants create and refine their scripts and storyboards
together with the simpleshow foundation after the workshop
* The realization and production of the finished storyboard will be
done by the simpleshow foundation, the result will be published
under the CC-BY-SA license on Wikimedia Commons
* The screenwriters can use the videos for Wikipedia articles and
other purposes
What do you need?
* Interest in storytelling
* A topic for an explainer video
* No previous knowledge in screenwriting or video production necessary

Hi,
as you know we have a bunch of sessions at Wikimania on video which we want to do together.
I am wondering when you are arriving and when we should meet for preparing the sessions together. Meet tomorrow at the breakfast, 8:00 for further coordination?

Dear all,
in the last week there was a lot of work going on behind the scenes. The
Video Editing Server (Schnittserver) is up running and functional, there
have been visits and conference call with the Wikimedia Foundation and
the Internet Archive etc.
There was consensus that we want to do joint presentations at Wikimania
what has been done, the tools we have and what we want to do in the
future. Also we want to meet again like we did last year at the Video
Lunch and shape our future.
So I was bold and drafted some Wikimania submissions and ask you to join
in. Please feel free to modify the abstract! This is just a first draft
for submissions of all of us.

- content-oriented projects, what has been done
https://wikimania2015.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions/Video_Production_Tools…
- tech-oriented, tools existing, ongoing development
https://wikimania2015.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions/Video_Community_Coordi…
- working meeting, continuation of last year's video lunch
Thanks!

Hello everyone,
I am no longer working for Wikimedia Nederland as of March 1, 2015. I’ve
had the privilege to work on numerous projects that contributed to the
availability and the use of free knowledge and content of the cultural
sector. I want to thank everyone I’ve worked with over the last two years.
Wikimedia Nederland and I have agreed to part ways. Don’t worry, I’ll stay
active in the field of open knowledge and open content, as a freelance
advisor and producer.
Current projects will be taken over by colleagues at Wikimedia Nederland.
Please contact one of the following people about these projects:
-
GLAM cooperation: Sandra Fauconnier, fauconnier(a)wikimedia.nl
-
GLAM-WIKI conference: Denise Jansen, jansen(a)wikimedia.nl
-
other: Sandra Rientjes, rientjes(a)wikimedia.nl
You can reach me personally at sebastiaan(a)ter-burg.nl, my mobile number
stays the same: +31 6 480 88 615.

Hi everyone,
I'm hoping to present at Wikimania about the video I produced to mark the
end of 2014 through the lens of Wikipedia;
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikipedia_Edit_2014.webm
and how we can open up collaboration to make a new video for 2015. I'd
like to start a discussion about it on this thread. Here is the link to the
Wikimania submission:
https://wikimania2015.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions/Edit2015_-_A_community…
Basically, I think that
1.) #Edit2014 serves as a proof-of concept
2.) The majority (or all) the pre-production for #Edit2015 can be open and
collaborative
3.) We don't have a collaborative editing platform (yet), so I'd like to
focus on one unknown element at a time, in this case, pre-production and
making it collaborative.
I'm open to hear people's thoughts!

What are your opinions of having a category for "articles with video" in
WP? The one was created for en.wp is being considered for deletion.
When the numbers were small, it made sense to try to track these, but
perhaps Phoebe's suggestion that it stay a parent category and we label
sub-categories may work? What have others in other WP communities been
doing?

Hi guys,
I made Japanese subtitle for the movie on commons.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/TimedText:Knowledge_for_Everyone_(no_sub…
But I encountered 2 problems.
* This namespace ignores templates. So I can't put the license template to
it. This template is not appeared on the movie.
* It ignores also line breaks of subtitle. Especially, Japanese sentences
don't have spaces for reading, so it's hard for audience to understand it
immediately.
Anyone has a solution to this?
Thanks,
