wikimedia.de is actually some sort of wiki (in
German): "wikimedia ist
eine nichtkommerzielle unpolitische vereinigung zur foerderung des
InternetWieEsEinmalGedachtWar in form von wikis."
This means something like "wikimedia is a noncommercial apolitical
organisation to support the InternetAsItWasMeantToBe in form of wikis".
They describe their goal pretty much interactive and P2p-like as "to get
away from a consumer network coming to a publishing [empowered] society"
. Wikimedia.de is supposed to become a "meta-wiki for discussion about
wikis". It is very alternative, and at least one user seems to be
affiliated with the German CCC (Chaos Computer Club).
It contains almost no content and has nothing to do with MediaWiki,
WikiMedia, or Wikipedia. I think, they chose the domain name "wikimedia"
because they're interested in the role of the media for the society and
think (as we do ;) that wiki has something to do with that - having in
mind something like the Radiotheorie by Bert Brecht, or the
Medienbaukasten by Hans Magnus Enzensberger (just an assumption). And
they seem to be interested in weed ;)
According to DENIC, the domain was registered on 10.06.2003 by Dominik
Kuehne, Stralauer Allee 21, D-10245 Berlin, GERMANY. Other people
involved are Marc Teichgräber ("RaDaR", radar at
c-base.org) and Martin
Steldinger (TriBble, tribble-wikimedia at hanfplantage.de). If you want
to ask them something, try these mail addresses, or I can give them a
call, if they're in the phonebook.
I'm not quite sure
what's up with this; it's a TWiki and I can't figure out how to navigate
to anything usefully. (Well, and it's in German.)
Seems to be a playground at the moment, it's no domain grabbing. Well, I
think, they chose the wrong wiki engine ;)
