Allowing full HTML will also make it possible for
other language versions of
that page (which have already been written) to go live.
It's not yet clear there will even be a separate wiki. Other than
allowing for HTML, which can be done on Meta, as is the case with the
current fundraising page, what do people see as the advantages of
separating the site to a place which will have even less visitors than
Meta currently has?
Other points that need to be decided before the new site is launched
is whether certain pages (such as the budget or the bylaws) will need
to be marked as official in some way, and whether or not translations
of those ought to be clearly marked as non-official. The permissions
of who can edit will need to be decided, particularly if the separate
wiki is used. The one in place at the moment only lets sysops create
user accounts and it is far from clear whether this is an acceptable
solution.
One problem with using HTML is that you could argue it is unwiki and
will prevent those who don't know it from editing there. Using
wikitext is an easier option, but does lead to a less pretty looking
site. Do people see this as an issue or not? If full HTML is going to
be enabled, the motivation for restricting editing access increases
for security reasons.
Also, could somebody move the whole wiki to
wikimediafoundation.org?
Whether it comes from a separate wiki or via Meta, it will be at
wikimediafoundation.org.
Wikimedia.org will redirect there.
