Well, it depends, I think. If they are particularly good, then it's
not a bad idea. Of course I'd appreciate if people run them by me
first before assuming that we'd like to keep them in perpetuity.
One way to (mostly) avoid the issue of having links to alternative
urls would be to redirect. That is, if someone were to type:
http://www.sd.org/wiki/Thomas_Jefferson
(where 'sd' means 'short domain')
then they would be redirected automatically to
http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Jefferson
That would (mostly) prevent people from making links to the shorter
domain.
