Hello!
Did someone successfully configured PhpStorm to run integration tests in the GUI?
To make integration tests work,
tests/phpunit/phpunit.php
has to be used. But that seems not possible to integrate with PhpStorm.
Many regards,
Daniel Riedmüller
Hi Everyone,
I hope this message finds you well. We would like to inform you about an important update regarding the Coolest Tool Awards. The Award[0] was originally scheduled to be held virtually in December 2023 but we have made the decision to move the award back to where it started - Wikimania.[1]
We are thrilled to announce that the 2023/2024 Coolest Tool Award will be held as a physical and virtual gathering at Wikimania in Poland!!🎉[2] Wikimania scholarships just opened, so apply now for a full or partial scholarship![3]
This change was made to provide a more engaging and interactive experience for the winners and all participants, and to ensure that we can celebrate the accomplishments of our community members in a more memorable way. We understand that this adjustment may impact your plans and schedules, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. However, we are confident that this change will enhance the overall event and allow for more meaningful interactions among the participants, including live demonstrations.
We will be communicating more details about the event in the coming months, including, call for nominations, event format, and any other pertinent information. We welcome any suggestions or feedback you may have in making our return to an in-person award ceremony a better experience. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Onyinyechi Onifade at oonifade(a)wikimedia.org or Seyram Komla Sapaty at ssapaty(a)wikimedia.org
We look forward to celebrating our successes together in July 2024. Stay tuned for further updates.
Best regards,

Hello all,
You might have already heard the buzz: the Wikimedia Hackathon is gearing
up for an incredible event in Tallinn, Estonia
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tallinn>, from May 3rd - 5th, 2024. Now,
we're thrilled to announce that the Registration form is now open
<https://pretix.eu/wikimedia/wmhackathon2024/>! The Registration form also
includes an optional Scholarship application
<https://pretix.eu/wikimedia/wmhackathon2024/>
<https://pretix.eu/wikimedia/wmhackathon2024/>which will run until January
5th 2024.
Participation in the onsite Wikimedia Hackathon in Tallinn is contingent
upon registration. The registration portal will remain accessible until we
hit our venue's capacity, which is approximately set at 220 participants.
Here's the exciting part: the event itself is entirely free of charge
ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to join us. Please note that
participants are required to make individual travel arrangements unless
they have been awarded a scholarship.

To ensure a vibrant and diverse participation, the Wikimedia Foundation

-
Travel
-
Accommodation expenses for a selected group of technical contributors.
The application form is seamlessly integrated into the registration process
and will remain accessible until January 5th 2024. For comprehensive
details about the scholarship process, committee, and eligibility criteria,

It's worth noting that the registration and scholarship application form is
powered by Pretix, an open-source third-party service, which may introduce
additional terms. If you have inquiries regarding privacy and data
handling, consult the privacy statement

All,
I'm happy to announce that v0.26.0 of the Wikimedia JavaScript coding
standards
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Coding_conventions/JavaScript> tool
eslint-config-wikimedia
<https://www.npmjs.com/package/eslint-config-wikimedia> is now out.
The previous version, v0.25.1, came out in May 2023, and there have been a
few improvements since then:
Probably the 'noisiest' changes for repos are altering the
template-curly-spacing rule to require spacing, and altering the brace-style
rule to remove the allowSingleLine exception; these changes align these
outliers to the rest of the whitespace rules.
As part of the work migrating the Wikimedia world from jsduck to jsdoc, the
@ignore, @internal, and @stable tags are now listed as definedTags by
default and so won't needed to be added on a per-project basis.
We've upgraded each of the plugins, which have added or updated a few
rules, and started testing in Node 20. This will be the final release that
supports Node 14. You can read the whole changelog
<https://github.com/wikimedia/eslint-config-wikimedia/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md…>
for full details.
The new release is available and you can upgrade to it immediately; sadly
the LibUp automatic upgrader tool is offline
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T345930>, so it may take some time for
all repos to switch.
If you think a change should be made to our standards, please suggest them
on the discussion page on MediaWiki
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual_talk:Coding_conventions/JavaScript> so
they can be discussed and implemented.
Thanks to Ed Sanders, Roan Kattouw, Bartosz Dziewoński, and first time
contributor MusikAnimal for their work
Yours,

Hi Everyone,
On behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation's Hackathon Organizing team, I am
thrilled to share the exciting news that the 2024 Wikimedia Hackathon is
scheduled to unfold in the captivating city of Tallinn, Estonia
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tallinn>, from May 3rd - 5th 2024!
The Wikimedia Hackathon is an annual event, uniting the global technical
community in a dynamic gathering focused on connection, innovation, and
building really cool projects. At this event, technical contributors
hailing from all corners of the globe converge with a shared mission: to
enhance the technological infrastructure and software that underpins and
empowers Wikimedia projects. For this exceptional 2024 edition, the
Wikimedia Foundation is joining forces with WMEE, the official local
chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation in Estonia
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Eesti>, to bring you an
unforgettable experience.
The theme for this edition aligns with last year's, emphasizing the
gathering of individuals who have a track record of contributing to the
technical aspects of Wikimedia projects. We're looking for those who are
versed in navigating the technical ecosystem and are adept at working
autonomously or collaborating effectively on projects.
While the majority of our event will unfold onsite, we're excited to share
that certain parts of the program will be broadcasted online, ensuring
accessibility to a wider audience. We warmly encourage local communities to
host pre-hackathon events or meetups. In the coming months, these pages
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Hackathon_2024> will be your
go-to resource for comprehensive details on attendance procedures, venue
specifics, travel recommendations, accommodation options, and scholarship
opportunities. Stay tuned!
The next milestone on our journey is just around the corner. Registration
and scholarship applications are set to open Monday November 27th (see
timeline <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Hackathon_2024#Timeline>).
Be sure to keep an eye on the talk page, mediawiki page
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Hackathon_2024>and your inbox
for consistent updates.
Should you have any inquiries or wish to get in touch with the coordination
team, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at hackathon(a)wikimedia.org,
or share your thoughts on the talk page
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Hackathon_2024/Discussions> of
the hackathon.
We are really looking forward to welcoming you again at the Hackathon, and
we hope that you are also excited to join and hack together!

Hi,
since a short time all PNG and SVG files in galleries are shown with a
white background where instead of transparent background where really a
transparent background is. About seven hours ago all was fine, transparent
background was transparent in galleries.
In dewiki, frwiki, enwiki I checked the same behaviour.
What happened?
Kind regards,
Doc Taxon ...
Respected sir/madam,
I am Harsh from India, I am currently in my 2nd year of college. I have
good command in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I am new to open source
contributions and it seems very overwhelming right now. Can you please
guide me how to get started with open source contributions or can you
assign me any beginner friendly issues based on these technologies?
Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone. A feature called Reference Previews
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WMDE_Technical_Wishes/ReferencePreviews>
will soon be available on all wikis that are using the Popups extension,
precisely on all Wikipedias and some Wikivoyages. Deployment is planned for
November 21 (not on Nov 22, as announced on village pumps last week).
*What are Reference Previews?*
It’s possible that you have already seen Reference Previews, as they have
been a beta feature on many wikis since 2019 and a default feature on some
since 2021. Reference Previews are little popups for references. Such
popups have existed on wikis as local gadgets for many years. Now there is
a central solution, available globally, and consistent with the PagePreviews
feature <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Page_Previews>.
*How do they work?*
These popups will be visible to everyone, including readers. If you don’t
want to see them, you can opt out
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WMDE_Technical_Wishes/ReferencePreviews#Opt…>.
If you are using the gadgets
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets>
Reference Tooltips or Navigation Popups, you won’t see Reference Previews
unless you disable the gadget. Wikis with Reference Tooltips or Navigation
Popups as a default gadget can decide to make these gadgets no longer a
default, in order to show Reference Previews as a default instead.
*Reference types*
It’s worth noting that this new feature allows you to show the type of
reference in the popup. This type can be specified via CSS classes
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Reference_Previews#How_to_assign_a_refe…>,
either individually for each reference, or – preferably – by adding the
classes directly to the relevant citation templates.
*Links*
Interface texts for this feature can be translated here
<https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Special:Translate/ext-popups?group=ext-popups>.
If you’re curious, please have a look at the project page with more
information
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/WMDE_Technical_Wishes/ReferencePreviews> (in
English), or the translated help page
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Reference_Previews>. Feedback is, as
always, welcome on this talk page
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:WMDE_Technical_Wishes/ReferencePreviews>
.
