(Third time lucky) :)
For those of us who don't have commit access, but still submit patches
from time to time it would be quite useful to be able to identify
MediaWiki developers on IRC. This would allow us to target the right
people since at the moment it is very difficult to find someone to
commit your patch or get feedback unless you know a large number of
developers. A mediawiki/developer/svntag hostmask would increase
productivity of non-commiters by allowing them to move onto different
bugs\features faster.
A similar thing could be done for Wikimedia system administrators as a
similar problem exists.

Hi,
the ParserBeforeStrip hook call is a nice hook to allow extensions to
manipulate the text before the MediaWiki parser has a go at actually parsing
the wikitext, unfortunately at the moment the hook isn't called for texts
which are included via a template inside an article.
eg text of the Main_Page:
some ''text''
{{Template:Some_Template}} <-- wikitext inside the template isn't
passed to the ParserBeforeStrip call
A proposal for fix which allows also preparsing for wikitext included in
templates (it works for me, but which you might want to review for inclusion
in the main code):
original code:
function replaceVariables( $text, $args = array(), $argsOnly = false ) {
... snip code for readability ...
wfProfileOut( $fname );
return $text;
}
replace this with:
function replaceVariables( $text, $args = array(), $argsOnly = false ) {
... snip code for readability ...
wfProfileOut( $fname );
wfRunHooks( 'ParserBeforeStrip', array( &$this, &$text,
&$this->mStripState ) );
return $text;
}
The replaceVariables function is called to replace magic variables,
templates and template variables, so the extra call to the ParserBeforeStrip
hook might occur to often as it'll also do the call for template variables
and magic variables besides templates text, but when the hook call is
included there extensions can now also have a go now at preparsing included
templates without needing to know that the text comes from a template (as
the hook call is the same in the 'regular' parse function which is used to
parse the main text...
If you know a better place for the extra hook call, I'd love to hear your
suggestions...
Cheers,
Peter.

What about this error message?
Can anybody tell me what's the problem?
"Warning: array_slice() [function.array-slice]: The first argument should be an
array in D:\xampp\htdocs\mediawiki-1.11.0\languages\Language.php on line 1153"
I've just installed mediawiki-1.11.0
Seems this error message is linked to the "Extension:Hierarchy"
(http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Hierarchy). As far as i don't include
it, the message dissapears.
I've seen, that this extension it's written for MW 1.8, 1.9.
But maybe it's possible to solve this problem...

The debug logs report the timeout occurs in strtr() throughout the code.
This last dump is very poor. I will be dumping it out of the database and
reverting to the 20070908 dump until a working dump can be provided.

This should go without a hitch, but ensure you have made all backups
(XML dumps, database dumps, files) and *don't* use phpmyadmin.

Hello
finally I could "compile" texvc on a Mac 10.4. (Actually I compiled in
on a intel machine running Mac 10.4 and then copied the math directory
to the powerpc machine; god know why the compilation in both machines
is different)
However there is still a problem left,
I can use
./texvc '/var/www/wiki/images/tmp' '/var/www/wiki/images/math'
'\int_{-N}^{N} e^x\, dx' 'utf-8'
And then the corresponding png is produced in the correct place,
however when I add math structure to any wiki page instead of getting
displayed correctly I obtain
Failed to parse (PNG conversion failed; check for correct installation
of latex, dvips, gs, and convert): \int_{-N}^{N} e^x\, dx
Which puzzles me completely.
Thanks and regards
Dear Media Wiki patrons,
I'd like to write a script that will mine the media wiki for broken or
altered links. Once found the webmaster will be alerted to their presence.
I should have no problem writing this script in PHP, Perl or even Python but
I will need some help accessing the most current form of the text in the
media wiki. Does anyone know how to mine the most current text while
ignoring the rest?
Thanks for the help,
Jnowacki
