MediaWiki's table syntax is hell, and often not needed as many tables
are very plain grids. The TabbedData extension can be used for simple
tables like this:
<tab>
Head 1|Head 2|Head 3|Head 4
This|Is|How|To do it
Just|put|your stuff|in ''here''
</tab>
(I'm abbreviating the <tab>, the defaults are a bit ugly.)
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:TabbedData
Since it's such a simple feature it almost seems sensible to include
it in the core. But I'd certainly like to see it used on Wikimedia if
it's sane.
Thoughts?

Hi all,
I just "discovered" that the syntax for page transclusion isn't
limited to calling template namespace with plain {{title}} syntax, and
other namespaces with {{:ns:title}} syntax. If a sub page (that is;
"title/sub") is referenced, with only a leading slash, also that
works, even if omitting the colon, like so :
{{/menu|params}}
if the page title is Title, that means that there sub page
"title/menu" can be called without the leading colon, which I would
have expected.
This seems like an exception to the basic rule. Are there more
expections to the transclusion rules than this? (I'm working on a
script to expand templates so I really would like to know...).

Someone has inserted a statement into the current dumps (20070908) which
causes the following message to appear on all login screens which imports
these dumps. Since the template uses a wikitext routine to generate a
smearing statement to anyone who uses the dump, it should not be in future
dumps. Any users who login to the site or request a password are accousted
with this message.

My mirrors are not proxy or phishsing sites, and it's inappropriate to
place this type of content into the dumps for innocent parties who may be
using the dumps simply to mirror or promote wikipedia in good faith.
I do not know whose idea this was, but its a terrible one. I will be
removing thesde entries from my local dump. Were it just an informational
message without referencing the site name, that's not as problematic, but
this template is designed to place this content by dynamically generating
the site name in the message. It is therefore cachable by search engines
and improperly labels mirror sites as "phishing" sites.
Thanks
Jeff

We'll still need to be able to build a patched 0.2.2 until we resolve
the issues in 0.2.2.1 (trunk)...
* odd behavior when pushing stop button during buffering

Hi all,
For some reason my post didn't get through (yet) in the wikien-1 list.
However, someone asked for the numbers of redirects in the en-WP
(don't know if they read this group thigh). Here are some correct
numbers (calculated with my dump processor):
* In the *main* namespace of the enwiki-20070908.xml dump there were
exactly 1.612.641 redirects.
* For *all* namespaces the total number of redirects were 2.216.516.
Only last revision redirects were counted, and the validity of the
target pages for the redirects were not checked.

Maybe it's coffein withdrawl, but in what table are links to
[[commons:something]] stored? I checked some articles on the
toolserver, e.g., [[Alchemy]]. That clearly has a link to commons (via
a template, but anyway). But:
* It's not in langlinks
* It's not in externallinks
* It's not in pagelinks
So, where is it? Don't tell me we don't store them... (links to
"simple" are in langlinks).
The API doesn't seem to know where they are either, nor does my local
test wiki, which pretty much excludes a toolserver bug.
Confused,
Magnus
