According to docs/database.txt (thanks Tim for writing this useful text),
database reads should use wfGetDB( DB_SLAVE ). However, when browsing
through the code, I found the following definition of Article::getDB() :
/**
* Get the database which should be used for reads
*
* @return Database
*/
function &getDB() {
$ret =& wfGetDB( DB_MASTER );
return $ret;
}
As far as I can see, the Database object returned by this function is used
to load the contents of the article.
Why is DB_MASTER used instead of DB_SLAVE?

Hello, list members.
I have noticed that there is a summer of code project for definition
and formalization of wiki markup language. But it is stated in the
current meta-wiki page that this would be "mostly a documentation step
and developer discipline issue."
Well, the summer of code rules clearly specify that a valid project
can't be one of documentation, but of coding (and I assume "discipline
issues", whatever that means, is also non-coding).
With that said, I am interest in such project if it involves coding.
To make this change into a valid summer of code project, I propose to
do a wiki parser, for which I have already designed some draft rules
in a yacc/bison manner.
Who should I talk to? Maybe I can email some of my draft yacc/bison
parser to the mentor?
Cheers.

QUESTION #1
Does anyone know how to modify speicialupload.php file so that I can
upload images and overwrite images without this warning screen:
A file with this name exists already, please check Image:example.jpg if
you are not sure if you want to change it.
I want to disable the warning screen altogether.
QUESTION #2
I know about the "ignore all warnings" check box (which I do not have on
my 1.5 version of wiki), is there anyway to permantently have this
checked....I will upload to 1.6x if this is necessary to disable this
screen.
Is the "ignore all warnings" check box found on mediawiki 1.5x? or only 1.6x?
Thank you in advance.
I was suggested to go here from the IRC mediawiki group.

Hello
May be these are very trivial question:
- How can I find out, whether the same user has various accounts
and give the false impression that many users contribute. I
presume it must be via the IP (also in case of multi user
machines that might be misleading).
- How can I find out that someone is a administrator of a
specific page? Right there exist a long list of administrators,
but couldn't a administrator get a specific signature or
something like this?
Thanks
Uwe Brauer.
Before I go find the foundation mailing list and ask them, has there been
any discussion of a wikipedia owned mirror to lessen the load on the main
servers and keep the content accessible in case of an outage? I'm imagining
that this could be accomplished by the the mirror independantly refreshing
from the recent changes page RSS feed - although I guess it would be more
efficient for it to pull the updates directly from the database. Anyway,
the beauty of an official mirror is that searches could be randomly directed
to it (or one of several official mirrors) and the "edit" links from the
mirror(s) point back to the "live" site. This is such an obvious idea that
I'd guess it's already been proposed and discussed, but I did a little
searching and didn't find anything, so I thought I'd ask.

A couple of us were trying to figure out the syntax to add a working
link to Special:Log in a template.
[{{fullurl:Special:Log|page={{{1}}}{{{2}}}}} log]
Works fine as long as parameter 2 is only one word. With a space in 2,
only the first word shows up in the URL.
Tried wrapping {{fullurl:{{{1}}}{{{2}}}}}, but page= won't take a full
page name.
[{{fullurl:Special:Whatlinkshere/{{{1}}}{{{2}}}|limit=999}} links]
Always works.
Is there some reason that fullurl stops encoding spaces to underscores
when it runs into a pipe?
And speaking of syntax, why {{fullurl: instead of {{#fullurl: to match
the latest parser syntax?
