Just a thought...
There is this press release currently pending:
http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Wikiquote:Press_releases/May_2007
I just realised there were no links to the other projects (it should).
But aside from this... when a famous politician (for example) make a big
speech, and get quoted everywhere for a really buzz sentence, could we
somehow generate some attention for wikiquote and wikinews ? I do not
think we could make a press release for this but...
Another example. Let us say there is a presidential election... thanks
to the election, Wikimedia France collected a huge amount of pictures
from all the candidates.
Now, let us say that immediately after the elections, Wikimedia France
publishes a press release to announce that
1) we collected huge amounts of images during and immediately after the
elections
2) and that we have a fabulous set of information about the new president

Subject: [Foundation-l] Wikiquote, the free compendium of quotations, reaches
10, 000 articles in the English edition
Hello there,
English Wikiquote reaches today 10,000 articles. Here is a part of
our press release ...
----
7 May, 2007 (St. Petersburg, Fl) - The Wikimedia Foundation announced
today the creation of the 10,000th article in the English language
edition of Wikiquote (http://www.wikiquote.org), a community-built
multilingual compendium of quotations. The article is for quotes by or
about Langdon Smith (http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Langdon_Smith), and
it was started by the Wikiquote contributor whose username is Kalki.
The Wikiquote project itself is going to celebrate its four-year
anniversary on June 27. The Wikiquote in the English language edition
is the biggest and oldest among all Wikiquote language editions. But
the growth is not limited to the English version, as more than 50,000
articles are now being worked on in the non-English editions of
Wikiquote in over 35 languages. As of yet, thirteen projects including
English Wikiquote have more than 1,000 articles: top 5 are English,
German, Polish, Italian and Slovak.
The scope of Wikiquote collection is from notable people like Tony
Blair to creative works like Lord of the Rings or Latter Days in every
language, including sources (where known) and translations of
non-English quotes as Rainer Maria Rilke. Besides articles by source,
Wikiquote also provides its readers articles by theme.
[...]
Since 2004, the English Wikiquote provides a good quotation for
readers every day selected from its collection. It is available on its
Main Page and also archives.

[also sent to wikipedia-l]
For those who haven't yet heard, someone has been hitting en.wikipedia
with what appears to be an attack looking for admins with weak
passwords - "password", "password1", "[username]", etc. Then they go
on a predictable spree; deleting the main page, mostly. I think we're
down four so far...
It's possible someone might try this in the near future on other wikis
- a lot of vandals tend to only go for en, but you never know, this
one might be feeling multicultural!
This might be a good time to spread the word and ask your admins to
consider checking their passwords are good and secure - after all,
it's good practice anyway.

Hello,
English Wikiquote has been recently revising / officializing its
policies. In this week some old conventions are confirmed as official
policy, or a new requirement was added.
Major changes are as following:
* Administrators are now required to be reachable by email. Further
information is found on WQ:RFA.
* Votes for deletion/Log, Image use policy and Blocking policy are now official.
* Wikiquote:Username policy is also now official.
As for mail requirement, if you are an EnWQ admin and not to confirm
your wikimail, please do it right now :)
As for new policies, the biggest impact may be given by "Image use
policy". English Wikiquote disabled its uploader years before, so it
is not practically change. However we confirm happily now the English
Wikiquote says "no fair use media, go Commons" officially. English
Wikiquote community is now orphaning remaining fair use images and
listing them on Votes for deletion.
Policy revisions are still being discussed on Village pump and

Okay, it would be good for us to set up the page for the coming mail contact.
By the way, who will be in charge of wikiquote queue? Currently who
among us are on OTRS, except Drini and me?

I know of one incident in the past two years that involved OTRS, and at
least two others that probably should have been done through OTRS instead
of direct emails to a particular sysop. I suspect there have been several
more that I don't know about or am not currently recalling. I think it
might be a good idea to get this going now so we can try it out while the
traffic will probably be low. I'm sure it will be essential eventually.

Does anyone think that we need an OTRS <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/OTRS>
info queue for our Wikiquote projects?
In case anyone is not familiar with OTRS (*Open-source ticket request system
*), it is basically the e-mail system for Wikimedia projects. For example,
when you e-mail Wikipedia from its "Contact us" page <
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Contact_us>, it goes to OTRS and is
received by specially selected volunteers who either answer the e-mail or
forward it to the correct people. The types of items found in the e-mails
can be anything from article problem rectification to unblock to a threat of
legal action (and many other items).
I do not believe that we have a current need for it (we are only the third
largest project), but others may think differently. The fact that we did
not have a "Contact us" link in our sidebar on the English Wikiquote has
come up and we did not really have a good answer for it. We may also wish to
have one set up just in case or become familiar with it until a time when we
grow large enough to actually *need* it.
I am waiting for your opinions on this matter,
Casey Brown

Hello there,
someone complain about logo font on meta and English Wikiquote.
* [[m:Talk:Wikiquote]]
* [[en:Talk:Main Page]]
Perhaps you guys met them on your wiki ...
I recommend them to have one discussion place, perhaps on meta
[[m:Talk:Wikiquote]], [[m:Metapub]], or this list. If you would like
to be involved, please give a look to meta page.

About the board resolution and wikiquote.
It says that now projects can't hold nonfree content unless they
develop an exemption policy.
Wikiquotes host mostly content under some sort of exemption (for
instance, when quoting from TV series). Is the resolution meaning that
all wikiquotes have to develop a specific EDP for TEXT ?
