As I understand, there are two ways to use an
image from
another language-wikipedia...
Is one way more recommended than the other?
Images should not be shared among Wikipedias. it is
our goal
to have each Wikipedia be complete and
self-contained, except
for links to the Internet at large. Disk space is
cheap--if
the same image appears in 10 wikis, then it should
be uploaded
10 times and linked locally in each. That way, when
we make
a backup of each wiki, each backup contains the
whole content.
Perhaps
Would it be thinkable then, that when we upload an
image, on whatever wikipedia, we have a list provided
with the opportunity to add the other wikipedia to
which we want to add the image at the same time.
Somehow, a common place for upload ? With as many
description areas as languages chosen.
Hence, we would have separate space, but common upload
facility ?
IMO, a very good idea.
Another helpful feature would be image upload announce mailing list
that automaticly sends posts from about new image upload from all Wikipedias.
Interested Wikipedians subscribed to the list could more easily keep
track of newly arrived resources and improve resource sharing in this way.
Aggregated recent image upload page is another possibility.
