Dear colleagues,

Ada Lovelace Day 2017

The University of Edinburgh’s 2017 Ada Lovelace Day event event takes place on Tuesday 10 October; celebrating women in Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths (STEM).

The sessions are free, open to all and are now live for booking. The event is being held at the James Clerk Maxwell Building and this year there is a special focus on Women in Chemistry and the 19 petitioners to the Royal Society of Chemistry in 1904.  Consequently, Periodic Table cupcakes will be available throughout the day but don’t wait till they’re all gone!

Booking your place is as easy as 1,2,3.... come to one, two or all three sessions!

·       11am to 2pm: Talks and Fun Science/Tech activities. (Book your place).

·      2pm to 5pm: a Women in STEM Wikipedia editathon to create fab new role models for young and old alike while polishing off the remaining cupcakes. Full training given. (Book your place).

·      5pm to 6:15pm: Film screening of A Chemical Imbalance followed by a panel discussion with Professor Polly Arnold, Professor Jane Norman and Dr. Carole Morrison discussing the issues raised by the film; namely the low participation of Women in STEM fields and equality in the workplace. (Book your place)

Find out more here. Can’t make it? We also hold monthly Women in Red editing events where you can learn how to edit in a supportive environment. Full list of upcoming events here.

Hope to see you there.

Best wishes,

Ewan
