Conor,

I think getting in touch with the Creative Commons guys in Cork would be a good idea (similarly spirited stuff and all that). I'm based in Cork, if they want to meet someone face-to-face but if you are willing to contact them and hoodwink them into acting as legal aid then I think that would be a great.

As Cary says, a meet-up might be a good step. To keep the ball moving while we have some momentum, what say people to setting a date and place for a meet-up?

A date a couple of weeks from now? That way we can give plenty of notice, advertise well and organise anything that needs to be done in advance. September 4th? That's six weeks from now. Sorry for offering a date that past the end of next month but anything before the end of August is out for me and I would *really* like to attend.

Dublin, I imagine, would be the most practical location (loathe as I am to admit it)? A Saturday? An afternoon, so people can travel up and return home the same day? A city centre or somewhere out on the DART line? It might be easier for folks travelling by car to park if it was out of town. Dún Laoghaire?

I'm thinking a 2:00pm lunch somewhere followed by a chat in the snug of some bar, with a formal-ish meeting (i.e. something with an "agenda") somewhere in between? Thomas Dalton, from Wikimedia UK, would you be good to attend and give us some advice from your experience? Thomas Ralph volunteered last year to act as a media contact for Ireland. (Good idea to have an OTSR person in that role IMHO, so no complaints here.) Could you attend also (are you still on the list?), if only to have key persons present?

Aside from just meeting with people, having lunch and chatting, two items I'd like to throw onto an agenda would be:
  • A Q&A session from Thomas Ralph on Wikimedia UK, if you're good to attend and willing to answer questions?
  • Open discussion on a possible Wikimedia Ireland
Conor, if you are willing to pursue the Creative Commons people in Cork and investigate the legal/technical aspects of setting up a chapter in Ireland that it would be good. Could you give feedback on that at a meet-up as part of an agenda too?

(Thomas Ralph, how would be best to cover the costs of your travel expense and board? A whip around or do you guys have a budget? Or a future Wikimedia Ireland might be able to pay you back or return the favour in some way?)

How does that sound by people?
Oliver

Hi all,

It's great to hear such enthusiastic responses. I think we'd all agree
that collaborating with the UK people on this would be wonderful, so
thank you Andrew, Thomas and David for your posts.

We seem to have myself, Oliver, Cary and Aisling as confirmed Irish
interested so we still need a few more people. I see some University
College Cork people are working on Irish Creative Commons licensing
already [ http://creativecommons.org/international/ie/ ]. That might
be a good place to contact to get law-savvy people on the team. I can
contact them if that sounds appropriate to everyone - ? Suggestions
welcome...

Aside from getting more people, we need to consider drafting some
founding documents - a mission statement, bylaws, etc. Perhaps we
could get access to the UK team's documents as an initial step.

Kind Regards,

Conor Wao.
