I'm an NYU guy, will that mean that my role in the event will only be as an

Hi Tal,
We discussed this at the Columbia Free Culture meeting last night, and
we decided that this event should be open to everyone.
However, as an NYU student, you might not be eligible for certain free
stuff and prizes paid for from Columbia University funds. But, we'll
at least try to get top performers who are not Columbia students
alternative prizes. And if Free Culture NYU wants to co-sponsor,
that's another opportunity for great prizes for NYU students.
Of course, everyone is invited to the party that evening, and to have
the free food there.
And the event will be open to everyone to participate directly.
However, we've been talking about possibly "encouraging" the long-time
Wikipedians to volunteer as photography mentors to the competing
groups rather than competing directly (this hasn't really been
decided). But certainly, the main role for volunteers would be in the
ending party at night, when we have to upload, tally, and organize all
the pictures.
I've updated the full information here:

Thanks

Hi all,
And now for an update!
We're currently planning a joint event for Friday March 28 (Rain date:
Saturday March 29) with our friends at the Students for Free Culture
chapter at Columbia University, with students to be scrambling all
over Manhattan in a competition to snap Wikipedia-requested photos.

If you have any photo requests of any kind, don't be shy. Add them to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Takes_Manhattan/Targets
There's also going to be some role for Wikipedian/Wikimedian
volunteers at this event, perhaps assissting some of the competing
teams during the day, and certainly working on uploading the images at
the party in the evening, and placing them in Wikipedia articles.
To clarify, the "Wikipedia Academy" article-writing event with Free
Culture Columbia I mentioned in my previous message is still being
planned, but it will be a separate event, held later in the semester.
If you have any questions, comments or suggestions about these
developments, we'd be glad to hear them.
Thanks,
Pharos
