---Let me apologize about my previous message. The event is Wednesday
evening Dec 3, -not- Thursday Dec 4. I made an error earlier.---
Sorry to put this up on such short notice.
This will be a mini-meetup on Wednesday (a little like the September
meeting) with a special guest:
Jay Walsh, Head of Communications for the Wikimedia Foundation, who's
in town for just a few days, and would like to meet with some of us as
we make progress to becoming an official chapter, and just to hang out
with local Wikimedians (he asked us to hold this meeting).
He's also been dealing with the Wikimedia Foundation end of our
February "Wikipedia Loves Art" project, coordinated in New York City
with the Brooklyn Museum, and we can talk about this project as well.
http://www.flickr.com/groups/wikipedia_loves_art/
This will be a little more intimate, not quite a "full-scale" meet up,
but we'd love to have you!
---The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 12/3/2008 at 6:30 PM.----
The meeting will be at The Symposium restaurant
http://www.geocities.com/symposiumrestaurant/
at 6:30 PM this Wednesday (2008-12-03).
This is the same venue right by Columbia University where we have held
our Wikimedia New York City dinners in the past.
Also, it is still possible that details may change in future; but
remain assured we will update this list on any changes.
After dinner, we may as well walk over to the Free Culture-themed
event on Illegal Downloading and copyright law scheduled at 8 PM:
http://cupolitics.org/
taking place at the Columbia University campus, and partly organized
by our friends at Free Culture Columbia and in the broader NYC Free
Culture community.
After the panel, some of the Free Culture folks might also organize an
outing at a nearby bar.
Thanks,
Richard

It's less than a week away, folks.
Come one, come all!
Our next meeting for Wikimedia NYC is this Sunday November 16 at
Columbia University.
This is a meeting for volunteers to the projects of the non-profit
Wikimedia Foundation, and everyone else too, who has ever looked at
Wikipedia and wondered what's going on behind it.
One big topic of discussion, out of many, will be a look back at our
October 'Wikis Take Manhattan' event:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Takes_Manhattan
See the cool video here:
http://www.streetfilms.org/archives/wikis-take-manhattan/
The agenda will also include the formation of the Wikimedia New York
City chapter.
And our new project with the Brooklyn Museum and possibly the Met
Museum as well, scheduled for February:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Loves_Art
As well as discussion of issues important to the Wikipedia and
Wikimedia community, including an adminship discussion, and a GFDL 1.3
discussion with guests from the Software Freedom Law Center and
Creative Commons.
We welcome all guests. If you support open education and free
culture, we are your people. If you have a project you want to work
on with us, this is a great opportunity to get acquainted. If you want
someone to give a talk or teach a class with an inside view of
Wikipedia, meet your volunteers. And if you just have any questions,
we'd be glad to try to answer them.
Remember, the agenda here is up to you! I encourage anyone who is
interested to sign up to give a presentation or suggest a topic for
general discussion at our wikimeetup page (given below).

We're having an uploading party at TOPP at 7:30 PM tonight for anyone
who still has Wikis Take Manhattan photos on hand (we've still only
got about half of the photos online as of yet). So, bring your
laptops (if you have) and your files, and be ready to tag!
The event will be mostly Free Culture Columbia students; who are
canceling their regular meeting tonight to come downtown for the
uploading fun; there will be pizza and everything also, like at Wikis
Take Manhattan.
TOPP is located at 349 West 12th Street, Floor 3.
Sorry, folks, for the late notice on this (we just confirmed it last night).
Thanks,
Pharos
Dear Sir/Madam:
Kindly DO NOT use this email list for advertizing and self-promotion! This
list is internal, only for the use of wikimedia associates and volunteers.
Are you a wikimedia member? And just out of curiosity, how did you manage
to get your hands on this list anyway?

Hi folks,
I thought I'd give you all a final notice on our Wikis Take Manhattan
photo event, which is all set for this upcoming Saturday, October 4.
The weather is looking good, too: sunny and in the sixties.
I hope you all can make it, and bring a friend (or two)! Remember,
non-Wikipedians are definitely welcome (no special skills required).
So bring your digital camera and your love of the city, get checked-in
at 1 pm, and return for the uploading party at 6 pm to get your
fabulous prizes.
