Hello, all. It’s time to strategize! In the words of Katherine Maher the
Executive Director of Wikimedia Foundation:“Wikimedia belongs to all of us.
We all have a stake in the future of Wikimedia.”
However, she asks also, “... Where is Wikimedia going?
16 years ago Wikipedia came onto the scene and was soon joined by
other Wikimedia
projects <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_projects> and a movement
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_movement> that formed and
continues to grow around the wikis.
As an individual editor and also a member of the Wikimedia Ghana User
Group, you are part of the movement.
Your help is needed to address some questions regarding Wikimedia 2030 –
the global discussion to define Wikimedia’s future role in the world in the
next 15 years.
The key question remains, “Where is the Wikimedia movement going?” Also, “How
should projects like Wikipedia change over the next 15 years?”
We will work together to summarize the responses I get and record them
here:

Here’s another document you can take a look at:
-
Strategy/Wikimedia movement/2017/Outreach/Wikimedia Ghana User Group
Discussion
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2017/Outreach/W…>
For those that made it to Berlin here are some of the thematic statements
we arrived at which you can read to give you an idea of what this is:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YMl7NiNYtj64abclb762FCkvhAUYmEY_x-3…
I was particularly interested in emerging communities, one of which is our
user group.
Ready to give your opinion?
Please send an email to our mailing list Wikimedia-gh(a)lists.Wikimedia.org.
Be bold and clear what you want Wikimedia to achieve by 2030 (as a movement
– you included).

Subject: [Wiki Loves Monuments] Sign up your country for Wiki Loves
Monuments 2017
To: Wiki Loves Monuments Photograph Competition <
wikilovesmonuments(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hi all,
We would like to encourage all countries that will participate in Wiki
Loves Monuments 2017 to sign up for it at the following link as soon as
possible:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_
Monuments_2017/Participating_countries
This information allows the international team to assist you with you
competition more effectively and in a timely manner. It is also a crucial
signal for teams outside of our project to plan their activities. For
example, Wikimedia Foundation's Fundraising team will need access to this
information to minimize campaign conflicts as much as possible.
This year, we've also introduced a tab called Organizers in Wiki Loves
Monuments landing page on Commons
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_
Monuments_2017/Organizers
where we'd like to encourage you to add the list of your team members and a
short description of what they do in your team, and if they don't mind,
their photo. :) This information is helpful for those from outside of the
Movement or the project who end up on that page and want to learn more
about your national competition, it also provides an opportunity for us to
get to know each other via this one page. :) Every year, there are more
than 150 national organizers that make Wiki Loves Monuments happen and it
would be great to know more about all of these amazing people. :)
If there are questions/comments, please send them our way. :)
Best,
Lily, on behalf of Wiki Loves Monuments international team

Hello all,
You are cordially invited to the Launch of the GLAM Ghana at the Premises
of Public Records and Archives Administration Department at 10 am today
Sorry for the short notice
Going forward:
Open Foundation West Africa and the Wikimedia User Group have agreed to
work together and collaborate when the need be.
Members can therefore attend any event they so please since both
organizations have similar goals of promoting the vision of the Wikimedia
Foundation (WMF) in Ghana and beyond.
Whereas the Usergroup does only WMF related projects in Ghana OFWA does
most Open Source projects including WMF projects too. We really offer our
expertise in GLAM and Education Projects and our focus is not just Ghana
but we also look at starting communities in countries in the West African
sub region that have no Wikimedian presence. However as the saying goes to
heads are better than one, we believe our presence here will not hurt the
user group but rather provide an extension where the user group may not
directly be operating.
Lastly OFWA is in no competition with the Usergroup which seeks to become
a chapter in Ghana whearas OFWA is looking at becoming a Thematic
Organization in West Africa. We will all be working and supporting the
Usergroup to make this a reality. Felix and I are still members of the user
group and happy to help any member where we can.
Looking forward to future collaborations on more projects
